Greenworks 80V Gen 3 cordless edger is built for clean sidewalk edging and stands out for strong cutting power, lighter balance than earlier versions, and a metal blade that feels safer than a string trimmer while reducing kickback. It makes edging quick enough to fit into regular mowing, and the variable speed and adjustable handle help with control. The main drawbacks are its weight, a finicky depth adjustment with no gauge, and some debris still getting thrown back. A solid fit for crisp edges if you want to stay in the Greenworks 80V ecosystem.

Common Questions (5)

  • It cuts very aggressively and has noticeably more power and runtime than the 40V version. The spinning metal blade also reduces kickback when it hits rocks or sticks, though it can still throw small debris despite the guard.

  • The Gen 3 is reported to be lighter and better balanced, but it still has some weight. The adjustable handle and variable speed help make it more comfortable to use.

  • It is described as a dedicated sidewalk edger with a metal blade that spins perpendicular to the ground, so it is not a general-purpose trimmer. It is best for crisp edge lines rather than replacing a string trimmer everywhere.

  • The BVGT15 code stacks for an extra 15% off, and that discount can make this the cheapest way to buy it through Greenworks. Amazon also price matched the deal.

  • There is no gauge showing how deep the blade will cut, so depth setup is trial and error. The wheel height and cut-depth adjustment knob is also described as a little finicky.

I am very disappointed with Greenworks tools. The advertising on the product boxes did not match my real-world experience. For example, the lawn mower claims it can mow up to 1/4 acre and run for up to 40 minutes, but in my experience it fell well short of those expectations.
Customer service was just as frustrating. The wait times were extremely long, and after finally reaching someone, I had to answer what felt like an endless list of questions before they would even discuss my issue. Instead of making the process easy, it seemed designed to discourage customers from getting help.
I also found the products to be less reliable than I expected, and I felt that my concerns were not taken seriously. When I tried to resolve the issue, I felt the company made it unnecessarily difficult to return the product or receive a satisfactory solution.
Based on my experience, I cannot recommend Greenworks products. I expected better performance, better customer service, and a company that stands behind its products.
It's not Greenworks.
Anything more than a postage sized lot and Electric Lawnmowers are garbage.

On the other hand...
Blowers, Trimmers, edgers, hedge clippers are great.
Pressure washer suck for driveway/sidewalk use.

I just got this in yesterday. Seems quite nice. Way more power and run time than the 40V version (which my father-in-law has). Somewhat heavy but with a spinning metal blade that actually gives a little peace of mind, and also reduces kickback when you hit the occasional rock/stick. It does still fling some small stuff back at you despite the guard, but I've never used an edger/trimmer that didn't at least a little.

Got this in yesterday and used immediately. Cuts like a knife through hot butter. Wheel height/cut depth adjustment knob is a little finicky to use. There's no gauge to tell how deep the blade will cut, so it's trial and error. Had been using the string trimmer for edging for years, so this was a nice change. I've been in the 80V family for nearly 9 years, so I add tools here and there when deeply discounted.

It does have some weight to it, but you can adjust the handle to your liking. Variable speed is nice, it's not all or nothing.

Thank you!

We have 1/3 of an acre on a corner lot. I'm all in Greenworks 80v. We have the mower, edger, weed eater, hedge trimmer, chainsaw, power inverter, blower, and 3000 psi pressure washer with spin attachment. The only complaints I have are (1) the mower battery life requires two batteries per cut, (2) the mower I have doesn't have two battery compartments, and (3) the chainsaws suck. Otherwise, I'm a very happy camper. The pressure washer is amazing. I've had gas, and the Greenworks one is better. The power inverter kept our WiFi and cable modem going during a recent power outage. I'm considering getting another one to power something else during storms. Basically, I love Greenworks. I've had no issues with customer service. They replaced my original pressure washer which I screwed up at $0 cost to me.
