The FIREBAT AM02 is a barebones Ryzen 7 H255 mini PC that looks strongest as a compact general rig, HTPC, or retro gaming box once RAM and storage are added. The 780M graphics are described as solid for emulation and light gaming, and the chip is treated as broadly similar to other 8745H class parts, with no NPU on the H255. The catch is the extra cost of DDR5 SODIMM memory and NVMe storage, which can push the real total much higher. Cooling also looks modest, with reports of warm sustained loads and a likely 45W limit, so it suits lighter use better than long heavy GPU work.

Common Questions (5)

  • The AM02 appears to have modest cooling, with reports of about 86C after a 10-minute Cinebench multi-thread run and concerns that it may struggle to hold more than roughly 45W under sustained load. A laptop cooler or added airflow is recommended for gaming or other CPU/GPU-intensive use.

  • The H255's 780M iGPU is strong for retro gaming and emulation, and it can handle general gaming reasonably well. It is also close to the Ryzen 7 8745HS in power, but sustained GPU-heavy loads may be limited by the AM02's cooling.

  • The H255 is an Asian-market variant with no NPU and slightly lower clocks than the Ryzen 7 260: 780M graphics at 2.6GHz versus 2.7GHz and max CPU boost of 4.9GHz versus 5.1GHz. It is also described as basically identical in power to the 8745HS.

  • No RAM or SSD are included, so you need laptop DDR5 SODIMM memory and an NVMe drive to make it usable. Windows activation warnings suggest it may not include a valid Windows license, or it may be tied to Windows 11 Home rather than Pro.

  • A usable build can land around $310+tax with used parts or about $450+tax with new parts. One breakdown puts 16GB RAM plus a 512GB SSD at roughly $180+tax used or about $300+tax new, while 32GB and 1TB can push the total much higher.

Well, this is actually a pretty good deal if you have the RAM and SSDs. Expect to pay quite a bit to get this up and running if you don't have RAM or an NVMe unfortunately. 32GB (2x16GB DDR5 5600 SODIMMs) will run ~$260 if you purchase used on eBay, $370-$380 new retail. (Amazon, Newegg, etc)

A 1TB NVMe starts at $130 retail, $100 on eBay for ~100% drive health open box. 512GB drives are around half those prices.

You're looking at roughly $180+tax to get a usable 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD PC going with secondary market parts, ~$300+tax new parts. (2x8GB DDR5 5600, 512GB SSD)

For 1TB NVMe / 32GB RAM, used falls into the $370+tax range for used, $510 new. There have been quite a few non-primary brand 1TB SSDs (Silicon Power, Timetec, Adata) popping up that are decent alternatives to Samsung, Micron, Sandisk and the other primaries.

I would be tempted to buy this if I didn't already have a Beelink SER7 up and running. These Zen 4 / RNDA 3 minis make good general rigs, with the 780m still performing reasonably well with games. These Firebat AM02 don't have the most robust of thermal solutions however, so it's questionable how well one of these will handle a consistent stressful load on the GPU for long. My SER7 can take the full 65w TDP the 7840hs is able to consumer and puts out quite a bit of heat, but it's also a fairly robust thermal solution for a mini. The AM02 thermal solution looks like it'll struggle to keep more than a consistent 45w.

so how much for 32gb d5 5600 ram memory and 512gb ssd in total ?
$260-$380 for the RAM, depending on if you go with used or new. $50-$70 for the SSD, used to new. You're looking at $310+tax for used, $450+tax new.

I can't find much info about this PC anywhere. I keep seeing the same model but with a different processor 6600h. It would be nice to see know it's actual TDP and if the 780M can be boosted a bit and if it stays cool. My gut is telling me it will be a lower TDP and meh cooling. I did see someone made an add-on fan on a youtube video but it was for a different CPU.

The Ryzen 7 H255 is basically the same as a Ryzen 7 8745H, which from benchmarks is around M1 Pro to M2 performance. $200 for 16GB RAM and 512GB SSD... yikes

The H255 is basically a defective 260. It's unable to boost CPU & iGPU properly due to degradation. It's used in the Chinese budget market. It's definitely not worth buying when you have to spend another 400-600 to complete the system.
Ehh this is very inaccurate, borderline wrong.

H255 is a Chinese market chip boosting only 4% lower in CPU clocks as that market is extremely price competitive. The iGPU is equivalent to any 780m in any other CPU.

The main difference is that while the AMD Hawk Point NPU are marketed as 'AI' chips; the H255 has the XDNA NPU disabled. So it cannot run a micro-LLM model on the NPU; of course you can still run an LLM on the APU instead. But no one should be buying a machine like this to run any local LLMs.

There is nothing 'defective' about this chip. By your definition, any chip that is not top binned of the generation is effectively defective.

Today I received a tracking number and it looks like it's shipping from Georgia. I live a few states to the north.

I have some spare RAM and SSD, should I get it?
I already have 4 mini PCs lying around and I don't know what they can be used for.

So why buy more if you are not even using the ones you have

The item still hasn't been picked up or moved from ALPHARETTA, GA 30005. If I remember correctly this is fairly normal for aliexpress.

Edit/update: It's July 7th and I'm still waiting for the package to be picked up.

I have new RAM and spare storage sitting around. I would use this for light and retro gaming. What kind of boost clocks would this have? Is it still not worth purchasing?
This CPU is basically identical in power and electricity as the 8745HS.

I purchased a 8745HS mini PC from firebat for $232 about 6 months ago.. with OS, RAM 16GB and HD 512GB.
