The Monolith 7 channel amp is mainly a headroom and expansion piece for home theater setups, especially when an AVR is hitting low power limits or needs extra channels. It can run cool, add dynamics, and help with future Atmos or 7.2.4 upgrades, while some setups barely change because the receiver already has enough power. The main cautions are reported hum on some units, a two prong power cord, and occasional compatibility quirks. It fits best when the system truly needs external amplification.

I just post stuff that I think is a deal, and others on SD could possibly use.

Just because I post a deal, it does not mean that I 'personally' bought it (I've posted 100s of deals); or that it would currently satisfy me.

But, thousands of us (myself included) have bought receivers that will lock into 20w mode once exposed to a 4Ω load.

So, much better to have 130wpc @ 4Ω for the price of a dozen slabs of vinyl, than to limp along at 20wpc .
Or buy an AVR that doesn't exhibit the limp mode. ASR has enough bench tests to prove this (i.e. 3800, 4800, Cinema 40, etc.)! They don't normally make it to SD because I guess they're considered "premium" AVRs? The closest to the Holy Grail would have been back when the 3800 could be had for ~$1000 but that ship has sailed due to tariffs and the availability of Dirac ART.

There lies the elephant in the room imo.
No fault to you, it's been going since the dawn of time.

Everyone gets in these debates because of the belief what "satisfy me" should be believed by anyone/everyone else!

In reality what we hear(sonics) is completely subjective, there is no universal better or worse.
Even science has tried to claim there is an answer and failed, ironically partly per their own belief!

Many people don't want to hear that, they have to be right, there is an answer for god's sakes!!!

This whole watts/limp mode thing is a good example.
A simplistic analogy(to be fair, there isn't a good one for sound), we are arguing how a car performs when it hits 100mph to the average person!

I leave that(try to) whole rabbit hole to those that care about it.
I'll mainly give my impression from personally using/listening to it.
If people want to believe it helps ok, if not I'm ok also.
I just play this fallacy game like everyone else!

Oh softball question!
Because you also said & I quote:
"It's full of vendors who want to steer you one way or the other"!

Please by all means, correct me if I interrupted that comment incorrectly?

I don't see how they're related. I already told you I'm not a vendor. Does my opinion somehow matter less than yours?

None of audio brands seem to be bragging about their limp modes.

Not on the box, not in the manual - not even as a bullet point on their glossy websites.

It's almost like they don't want buyers to know about this important feature.

Oh geeez & people get mad at me for these dumb pointless post!!!!
You & Turne are cut from the same damn cloth!!!

Ok make it T-ball, can't strike out there!
What is your opinion implying?
Big hint: "want to steer you one way or the other"!

On a side note:
Why is my opinion a vendor & yours a non-vendor?
Oh never mind, forget the squirrel!
Apparently this is too complicated for you as it is!

I got a brand new replacement under warranty but that also had same hum.
The picture displays an AC plug with two terminals. There is no ground terminal. Make sure you have a good cable connecting the pre-amp to this amp. Turn off all lights and motors in the house and recheck for hum at each channel. If the hum persists, then we may have an internal design issue if you know the pre amp is clean.

Back label shows 1200W...probably a high current AB amp capable of putting out +100W x 7 continuously into 4 ohm load. Dynamic power output into 4 ohm could exceed 250W if the manufacturer installs more than 80,000 microfarad for the main filter. Even more impressive if the internal is populated with Japanese capacitors. I would definitely take advantage of the 45 day return policy if I was in the market for a decent amp and don't have to pay for return shipping/stocking.

The Federal Trade Commission only regulates power labeling in 2 ch mode. Therefore, most of these units go into safe mode to satisfy the thermal management of 2 ch operation and the bean counters.

It's exactly as E4300 stated: the FTC only cares about "truth in amp performance" into 8 ohms, not 4 ohms. The limp mode is laid bare only during Amir's 4 ohm bench test, separating a robust amp design vs "good enough". Is it any coincidence that these "good enough" AVRs are constantly hot deals on SD?

Concerning the Monolith amp, we already know Audioholics refused to share their numbers. Anyone know where the presumptive 4 ohm power ratings are coming from (other than Monolith)?

If you want it tested, order one, and have it sent straight to ASR.

He'll test it for free, then ship it back to you.

You'll have the results from the latest version of the amp, and if you ever sell it, you can brag that it has been thoroughly tested by Amir.

Lol I just read all 9 pages of this deal and I am still lost on if I should get this or not for my home theater. I have a Sony STR-DN1080 with JBL Studio 530BK's all around for F-L FR-LR and their matching 3way center channel. 2x ported Monolith 12's. I cant figure out from this whole thread if I will notice an improvement in quality by grabbing this.

Correct me if I'm wrong but that unit doesn't offer pre outs? If not you can't use this.

A side note:
If your center is their 520c.
You might consider switching to their 625c.
Many consider the 520c the very weak link in that series.
The 6 series are a much better center ime.
Crutchfield has a decent sale on them right now.

The 625c is $194 & 665c for $399.

If I had any interest at all in this amp, then I might possibly do as you say and send one to Amir. I have no intention of sending to Amir and then returning the item to the retailer as that's an a-hole move. There are a lot of red flags for me, not the least of which why is Monoprice selling this close to cost or for a loss?

Monoprice is not losing any money on these items.

A couple of years ago Monoprice had the dual 15" 3000w M215 sub on sale for $1000 shipped .

Kids on the internet were saying it was discontinued, clearanced, 'below cost', bla bla bla.....but nope, it was just a sale. They still sell it today (and now with the tariffs it's $3k).

Shows how much markup there actually is in Big Audio.
