The Monolith 7 channel amp is mainly a headroom and expansion piece for home theater setups, especially when an AVR is hitting low power limits or needs extra channels. It can run cool, add dynamics, and help with future Atmos or 7.2.4 upgrades, while some setups barely change because the receiver already has enough power. The main cautions are reported hum on some units, a two prong power cord, and occasional compatibility quirks. It fits best when the system truly needs external amplification.

Monoprice is not losing any money on these items.

A couple of years ago Monoprice had the dual 15" 3000w M215 sub on sale for $1000 shipped .

Kids on the internet were saying it was discontinued, clearanced, 'below cost', bla bla bla.....but nope, it was just a sale. They still sell it today (and now with the tariffs it's $3k).

Shows how much markup there actually is in Big Audio.
Ok, but that's all kinds of frightening (for me at least) that they're still making money on $325. That's nearly half the street price of the RZ30 and about 25% of the 3800....used.

I might have taken a flyer were I just starting out in home theater but that was close to 25 years ago. My first AVR, the Onkyo TX-SR601 retailed for $500 if memory serves. I might have paid close to $325 back in the day. LOL!

If the amp puts out more than 30wpc into 4Ω, it locks into limp mode (unless unplugged for more than 10mins).

If you have old 8Ω speakers, they might never go into limp....but 8Ω speakers are pretty rare nowadays.

The odd part is that there is no indication on the unit that you are in limp mode. The receiver just keeps working at the greatly reduced wattage.
8 ohm speakers are not rare by any means for home stereo/theater. If anything 8 ohm is more common than 4 ohm speakers unless you're talking car audio or PA or something. Probably the most important thing to note about these amps anyone new may not realize, is that they are Class Many receivers (particularly lower end) are Class D. Class A/B are typically more power hungry but are known to have far superior sound quality. Class D are more efficient and less expensive. This is just the surface, just look into the different classes of amps. And yes better amps are typically more stable at lower ohms which will usually be listed in the specs. Even 8ohm nominal speakers will typically dip a couple ohms at different frequencies.
edit: Correction, NOT most receivers but some receivers used to be, and I would consider this an (good) entry level amp. Many onkyo and pioneer are class D and several other companies have utilized class D before.

Your info appears a bit jumbled and downright outdated:

1) Class D is rather rare in an AVR. The only one that comes to mind from a mass market brand would be JBL's MA series. Care to name some more household examples?
2) One of the older knocks on Class D was SQ. This is no longer the case as the many owners of Buckeye amps can attest to!
3) Class D will typically be more expensive than the equivalent output Class A/B amp. This "rule" really hasn't changed in like forever!

One of the reasons I am curious about the Monolith amp's 4 ohm rating is stability as you suggested. What good is it to "help" an AVR that has limp mode if the amp connected to it is also "limping"? As I said before, very rarely will you pair "good" with "cheap".

Correction, NOT most receivers but some entry level receivers used to be, maybe my info was outdated, and I would consider this an (good) entry level amp. Some onkyo and pioneer are class D and several other companies have utilized class D before.
Thank you for your correction though, definitely not most Modern receivers. What Class D is more expensive than Class A/B? I don't see that at all, maybe depends on your definition of "equivalent". Almost every super high end amp in Class a a/b

As an example, there are dozens of $$$ Class D amps using the Hypex Ncor or Purifi amp modules inside.

Some amps, like the USA assembled Buckeye, can be made to order with either modules.

There can be some good things about everybody using the same amp modules, like if Vanced Amps goes out of business, you can still swap out a module yourself and be back in business.

Or if a module in your McIntosh M1254 kicks it, you know you can get a replacement channel from the net, a lot cheaper than having Mac service it.

History lesson as I have personal experience on this topic: my 2nd Pioneer Elite AVR was the SC-25, which had B&O's ICE amp technology and therefore, Class D. My 3rd Pioneer Elite AVR some time later was the LX-701 and had their own proprietary Class D tech they called D3 (moving away from ICE). The current Pioneer lineup (305, 505, and 805) are clones of the respective Onkyo and Integra models and therefore Class A/B. You won't find Pioneer branded AVRs now because they pulled their license from the PAC group about 2 years ago.

If you compare the current JBL MA series against a "comparable" Class A/B AVR (of which 90% are), you will find their retail price much more expensive and offering less "value" and features compared to the typical Japanese brand (i.e. Onkyo, Denon, Yamaha, etc.)

The warning sign at my Imax theater for Oppenheimer said that peaks of 120db were to be expected, so I'd trust that sign over any kids on the internet telling me how loud a movie theater is.

I never said that, Superman said that.

A movie at 40% setting on my system is as loud as a commercial theater; and much cleaner.

Not sure why you think I'm a kid.

There were actually a lot of complaints about Oppenheinmer being too hot. https://www.reddit.com/r/Oppenhei...ally_loud/

Wtf does 40% mean? Have you calibrated your system? Is that 40% of reference? Most would calibrate their system so they know when they are at reference and not going over or doing so intentionally.

Have you measured the output on your speakers at seating distances? Do you know what dB level you like to listen at?

Have you measured the distortion on your speakers at your 40% listening level? Do you really know they aren't distorting at high output? Or is this just based on your feelings?

bought this few years ago. if you are setting up home theater with 5.2.2 or more this will work just fine. i have front speakers, and 2 sub drive by yamaha rx a6a built-in AMP and center, atomos, rear drive by M5100. this will give you more room to calibrate and better listening experience in low volume.

I thought you are a kid because I fed a couple of your posts into Chatgtp and asked your likely age. It said your were likely 18-20.

43% on my receiver is where my room is at thx reference level.

I have several Watt and Decibel meters, but no distortion reading equipment other than my O-scopes.

Anybody actually own this thing? People are complaining about it, but seems like a really cheap solution for my surrounds. If you have complaints, please post a link.

Any humming with no volume on? I've read a few complaints about too many channels in a small chassis.

Neat, I'm staying up with the joneses. Also, who does that? Feed a conversation through AI - have I been chatting with you or with your AI partner?

This conversation is pointless. You've past the age of being curious and you think you know it all. I'd recommend actually measuring your equipment and what the needs are and not base things on vibes, and especially not recommend others buy things based on your feelings about equipment.

It's not "feelings"; it's solid evidence from one of the most experienced sound reproduction testers in the industry.

ASR accepts no ads, no sponsorships, or paywalls....even their Youtube channel is ad and sponsorship free.

So if ASR shows repeatable evidence that a receiver locks into Limp Mode once a speaker's impedance dips below 4 ohms, then everyone here is free to examine the posted test results.

If you have evidence that his testing is flawed, you should post your evidence and your testing methodology.

Never owned but installed this and their other amps.
None had the hum issue, IF it does just return it.... pretty simple.

TBH unless your surrounds are very inefficient and you regularly listen at very very high levels, this is way overkill.
Even then, the difference would likely be minimal at best, definitely not worth the cost.

If you're looking for a cheap solution, look up Fosi audio amps, get pretty good reviews and very very unlikely you would hear a difference(if at all)between this and those Fosi amps!

Well to be fair no one is questioning ASRs testing results, those are clearly "measured" results.
What they don't tell you is "sound" results, they are clearly not the same thing.
There is clear evidence of that everywhere, including that very same ASR link.

If someone chooses to conflate "measured" results & "sound" results.
Completely their prerogative but it's only facts/evidence to those to choose to believe it is.
