The SW-15 is a big, budget home theater sub that is praised for strong output and surprisingly deep bass for the money. Audioholics measurements are cited as showing about 117.5 dB at 63 Hz, around 107 dB at 30 Hz, and roughly 98 dB at 20 Hz, with reports that it can pressurize a medium living room and work well for music and movies. The main cautions are reliability and support, with amp failures and dead units reported around the one to two year mark, and some pointing to better warranty or service from RSL and Dayton alternatives.

Had solid oak plywood built by my brother for the cabinets.

WHAM and an unknown jazz group I used for demos.

The frequency response on that is going to be utterly hilarious.
I like WHAM and Boy George.

Take your sub. Listen to a song. Turn on high pass at 30 hz. Listen. Turn off high pass. Listen. Go back and forth a few times. A LOT of music shows a difference for A LOT of genres.
I design speakers, keep in mind a high pass slowly cuts the SPL down so depending on the slope and actual measured in room response of the sub it usually playing well above 30hrz.
Just play a pure 30hrz tone, make sure your sub is not distorting harmonically (or it will at extra sound at frequencies that are the harmonic multiple of the intended tone) also make sure there is no Doppler distortion from very high excursions or that will also be audible.
30hrz is mainly presented as a vibration/sense of air pressure & definitely below that is stuff you feel and do not hear - but it will vibrate things in the room including the walls making those things produce sound at higher frequencies that you hear.
You can measure your sub with REW and a cheap mic as well to mess around a bit more with the situation.
Anyway I'm not saying to not use subs or something like that, I use several subs.

There are so many sources of distortion in an untreated room, it's simply cost prohibitive for people to hunt them all down. Ontop of it being not very noticeable for low frequencies.

The scientific jargon here really only applies to measurements, not perceptual experience.

Your book shelf + that 1 book, just the right size, could have a 20db vibration, you'd never pick it out in real content. Even most people's ceiling insulation makes ruffling noises.
I was mainly taking about subwoofer distortion.
The 'jargon' I used explains why the sound does change when the woofer starts to distort heavily & that it is audible.
Nobody said a 20db vibration from a book is audible when you are rocking out or that that is an issue.

>You can not really hear 30hz at any SPL level though you can feel it. Anything you hear at 30hrz is just distortions and vibrations of things in the room.

That's just not true. I'm in my mid-30's and my $700 Klipsch RP-1400 slams at 20hz. S'not just "cabinet vibrations," that sum bih will pressurize my living room at a subterranean frequency
Yes, I said you can't hear a 30hrz tone but you can feel it. A 30hrz sound frequency is very hard for humans to hear at all, rather that we feel it, that it is a physical vibration that we feel but do not hear.
I said anything you hear as a sound that accompanies the 30hrz tone is not actually the 30hrz tone.
What you described is pretty much what I said. What is the issue here?

I design speakers.
Judging by the products on the market and what most people make at home, the likelihood of you not understanding audio has just skyrocketed. Got some spinoramas and distortion graphs of your designs? That would establish you as an actual authority instead of just using the old argument from authority fallacy. Also, you did not actually respond to what I said. You just blathered about yourself.

Voice coil size and Resonant frequency the natural frequency at which a system vibrates with maximum amplitude when subjected to an external force.

Are missing! Odd!

Howdy, the post was summitted early by mistake. I was not done writing. I did hit edit complete the intended thought in the post but your reply beat me.
Not trying to blather about myself, I stated that mainly so you understood I have tried a lot things out.
Yes, I have those things. Any design work I do is based on measurements. If I win the lottery I am going to buy a KNFS. Unfortunately I basically never buy lottery tickets but dare to dream.

I'll begin, 15 inches and only goes down to 30hz?
I would seem Monoprice is being honest with their specs.
Using the CEA-2010 rules Audioholics measured a maxium SPL of 117.5db at 63 hrz & then it is about -10db down at 30hrz, matching the spec published.
It is still able to output 107db at 30hrz and 98db at 20hrz.
This is extremely good for a sub that right now is $250.

Between this and rsl10e which one is better for music? Or is there a better one in $300 range?
Take your pick. Neither are known for being great with music.... but both will play music. A good sub for music is hard to find in this budget $300 range.

Fair enough. The original post is dramatically different from your edited post. Room interactions are, of course, part of every listening experience. My scientific understanding is that we can actually usually hear to 20hz. My experience says much of the same, though not at low volumes. Certainly we feel vibrations at 20hz too. There is a dramatic difference between listening to a deep bass track on full-range headphones vs speakers with a sub. My setup, which I rarely listen to anymore, has JBL 708P and a PB16 sub turned way, way down to match the speakers. Then EQ with Dirac through minidsp. I also tried setting up a 5.1 system with the 708p and 705p and dirac, but i keep getting feedback that I haven't solved. Probably because of multiple circuits or noise in the computer I used. I did some play with test tones to see what I can hear, and while I don't remember the specifics, I don't remember ever saying, "Oh, that was an unexpected result."

Speedwoofer 10e
Lol. If its really linear for music, it can't be meant for it? Because it also good for home theater?

I know its not $250 but can be had at $299ish or blemish for less with a better warranty and build quality.

It's been reviewed by many, just seconds on Google will confirm its musicality.

I won't argue to it being an end all of subs and the Monoprice in this thread is still a lot of SPL for the $ and a great value also.
