$9 - no glass lid, is there some feature on this that's missing on that one I'm missing?
The nonstick seems to just be a function of the carbon steel, since there's no warnings about the coating anywhere. Same as the nonstick on the Amazon item.
The big difference I can see is the pre-seasoning and the glass lid, but I've got a few glass lids that'll fit, and never had an issue seasoning things I put oil in anyway.
It is carbon steel though - and I just stuck a magnet on it, and it should work with induction, so, seems like it will work for my setup. The 7" bottom will fit with my 8" induction, and it seems thick enough not to warp.

Walmart Mainstays Wok is definitely coated in some sort of cheap Teflon/PTFE-based coating. My mom has bought this before, and I forced her to toss it. While these cheap coatings are fine for low to medium heat, they quickly break down under high heat (aka wok cooking) and can be dangerous for your health. And don't just take my word for it, a quick Google search shows many people have asked about this wok in the past.
Unlike your Walmart wok, the Amazon wok CLEARLY states it's pre-seasoned and "naturally" nonstick: claims that are clearly not made by the Walmart wok, bc you can't season PTFE coatings.

Here's what the label on the product says in terms of warnings:
---
This product contains: Carbon black (airborne, unbound particles of respirable size), aluminum, manganese and manganese compounds, phosphorus, chromium compounds, nickel and nickel compounds, iron. For more information about chemicals in this product, visit walmart.com/ip/5072166183

The website only has the same info - all the mentions of nonstick just seems to be the factory finish. All the metals listed above are just the recipe for modern carbon steel as far as I can tell.
All the PTFE coatings I've seen have come with many more warnings, especially temperature warnings. It certainly doesn't feel like any teflon or similar coatings I've encountered on previous nonstick I've encountered at least. Just seems a smooth metal finish. Looking real close, the splotchyness and matte nature is just the metal with the extra carbon melded in, not any coating at least.
Sometimes 'normal' stuff can be more high-quality than you expect.

I'm just a random guy looking for a cheap wok, so wanted to make sure there wasn't anything local that's more reasonable, you can understand how looking at the information available and even the metal outside of the pan without a clear layer at all would make me think there's no teflon or whatever.
I've got no problem finding out I'm wrong - so thanks for that.
It's just kind of extra nasty given how much of a big deal PTFE warnings used to be on products - seems a lot to get away with given that people have birds and people with health conditions that can be messed up without knowing with stuff like this.
Ordered the one on sale here - $24 after tax.
