Is it me or does this still seem expensive considering waffles and pancakes aren't made at home like generations past? Everyone has this from $15 (JC Penny but no free shipping) to $30 (Target) and others in between. Doesn't seem like a SD to me.

I bought one of these and prefer the swivel ones with a dedicated handle. It makes waffles fine, I just don't care for it because the handles to flip and open it are small, resulting in steam running up your hand.

The people you know might have stopped making them at home but I know some of our friends still do. We do as well. There is no comparison between homemade and frozen food aisle pancakes and waffles. That stuff is for kids.

Good price. I have this and I like it for the money. Makes great waffles, though I find myself flipping it over and letting it sit 30-60 seconds longer for my preference. To note: yes, it stores upright, but the button is sensitive and moving it while "locked" upright will disengage the lock. Also, as another mentioned, no handles means you flip it and open it carefully. Flipping is pretty easy, but I'll often open the latch and hold the latch to pull the top plate open. Personally, I wish I had taken this money and put it toward a waffle maker with audible alerts as this is silent.

I have this one for 2 years now, works well. Buying 2nd one just make waffles faster when we need to, the demand is growing.

I think you're right in general, but there is a huge performance difference between brands and even different models of the same brand so its impossible to accurately compare how good they are by price alone. Its like saying a $40,000 car is ALWAYS better than a $30,000 car which we know isn't always true. I like the flip-over style ones that can make 2 waffles at once. I got one on sale for $28 which normally costs $60 and it tends to brown one side more than the other but its not a big deal as both sides still have a nice thin crispy exterior and it cooks twice as many waffles in the same amount of time as a single waffle maker like this. I'd pay $60 full price for it if I needed another because the time savings is worth the extra money over the lifetime of using the product if you're like me and you want to make a bunch of waffles each time and not just 1 or 2.

Reviews seem to indicate the outside shell is plastic and not painted metal. This also doesn't have temperature adjustment. The flip feature isn't that exciting as you could just flip your standard waffle maker upside down if you wanted and it would work.

Yeah, it has a cheap feeling plastic exterior. I felt one on display at Walmart or Target. It is cheap, so that's expected, but there was also a Cuisinart on display that had a stainless steel wrapped shell for slightly more money, and it definitely felt nicer.
