Has anyone put any of these types of pop up canopies outdoors in their backyard permanently? And if so, how has it held up/performed? I suppose you would need to waterproof the metal posts--maybe spray paint with clearcoat. And then regarding the canopy itself, it would probably do well for a year or two in the sun if you're lucky before it deteriorates? Not sure there exists any type of spray on that would protect it from UV without washing away from the rain. (Something like 303 Aerospace would be nice but I don't think it would hold up against rain...) Perhaps you could mod it by getting a large sun shade sail (which I believe would last longer with it being better, thicker material) and substituting/draping/tying it over the frame. For anchoring you could use large sandbags on the four posts along with large anchors hammered into the dirt. Or would I just be better of getting a 10x10 outdoor patio umbrella and call it a day.

I wouldn't set it up permanently. Had an Ozark Trail 10x10 straight leg canopy from Walmart a few years ago. Left it out for 3 days for shade while I was building a deck. Third day, it rained hard in the evening. I can't recall if there were any tears to the top cover. I remember none of the vertical legs were damaged. One diagonal rod was bent and on one side a few of the flat tube rods at the middle and end section with the rivets and plastic braces through them snapped.
