The RX 9070 16GB stands out as a lower power, future minded card for compact builds and 1440p gaming, with enough headroom to stretch a rig into the next few years. It draws far less power than the 7900 XTX, supports newer FP8 and FSR4 features, and can deliver a meaningful jump over the 9060 XT. The main knocks are price, since recent 9070 XT and even Woot pricing landed lower, and the card is long at 289mm, which may be tight in small cases. It is a strong efficiency play if you want 16GB without the extra heat and wattage.
Small-form-factor PC builders who need low power draw, because the card uses about 220W and is described as fitting compact rigs better than hotter alternatives.
Gamers wanting a 16GB card with stronger future-proofing, because it can deliver roughly 15-45% more FPS than a 9060 XT and supports newer upscaling features.
It is a decent price relative to recent 16GB pricing, but not the lowest seen. Recent references include a $550 RX 9070 XT deal at Walmart and a $520 deal on the same card at Woot, so $579.99 sits above those short-lived lows while still being near the better end of recent history.
Yes. The RX 9070 is described as one of the best options for a low-power small-form-factor build because it draws about 220W, runs cooler than a 7900 XTX, and is efficient enough to fit future-proofing goals without the higher power penalty of the XT.
The 7900 XTX is about 20% faster and has 24GB of VRAM, while the RX 9070 has 16GB and uses much less power at roughly 220W versus 355W. FP8 and FSR4 can narrow the gap in supported games, making the 9070 the better pick if you do not need the extra VRAM.

How does this compare to 7900xtx?
The 7900 XTX is approximately ~20% faster than this 9070, has 24GB VRAM instead of 16GB, but also runs much hotter at 355W versus just 220W. The 9070 does support newer forms of compute such as FP8, which leads to more efficient gains when using FSR4 upscaling and can mitigate some of that performance difference.
If you don't need the additional VRAM, the RX 9070 is a great pick. It's also quite a bit cheaper than you're probably going to find the 7900 XTX at.

Thank you! Seems like the newer doesn't mean better in this case.
For anyone else wondering, the deal on the 9070 XT for $550 was posted 5 days prior to this one.
And there was the Woot deal on this specific card for $520 just a few days before that. Times are tough, but $30 over launch MSRP today still isn't really a deal.
I got on the ASUS Dual Radeon RX 9060 XT 16GB deal for $400+tax. How does it compare with this? are there much differences?
From the research I've been doing the 9060 xt is a solid 1440p card and seems to hold its own but the 9070 16gb is a pretty significant upgrade depending on the types of games you're playing it seems to range anywhere from 15-45% more fps so maybe 30% average power increase? I'm no expert but that's just from what I've gleaned from watching benchmark and comparison videos on youtube as I've been trying to decide which card to purchase myself. The 9060 xt is honestly probably enough for what I plan on using it for but I think I'm going to go with the 9070 for a bit more future proofing.
9070 GPUs are expected to disappear as more supply is moved to the XT model while increasing price
this is probably the best GPU deal there will be for quite some time
this model is also the best for a low power SFF PC
Your assessment is correct. Since both 9070's and 9070 XT are 16GB VRAM AMD has shifted Production to 9070 XT (and 9070 GRE with only 12GB) for the greater pricing margins. This leave the most efficient, and best bang-for-the-buck 9070 to be priced at a premium going forward.
The 9070 XT using 25% - 45% more power ofr only a 8%-15% FPS gain is highly inefficient.
The only drawback is that this card is fairly long at 289mm for SFF cases that max out at 280mm.
