This is a smaller one than I have but I have had it for over 5 years and love it. It is a good, and fun, kettle. It is fun watching water boil in a glass kettle. My daughter runs to watch the water boil... The bottom has blue lights.

I have the 1.7 L capacity version of this kettle and it works very well. Gets water boiling quicker than on the stovetop. Had it for a few years and it has served me well.

TY - ordered for my mom since she usually just microwaves cups of water and that's somewhat dangerous to do.

This is an amazing kettle.

I used to just buy breville until my last model. It has a defect where its cord would slowly get torn by its own cord holder underneath.

Now I have a much cheaper Hamilton that doesn't have this problem

Electric kettles are a revelation. Get one without plastic parts that come in contact with water or steam for best use, but get one.

Dangerous? It's pretty rare to have that eruption issue isn't it?

I think so, but (I may be wrong) supposedly water doesn't boil in the microwave so it could be wayyyy too hot and it can cause burns if you're not paying attention. She lives with my sister's family and they have 3 girls and just figured this would be safer.

Careful with lid, it can snap off (our experience).

That's why I chose the Chefman kettle, where the lid fully comes off and makes it easy to clean the kettle. Got it 2 years ago for under $10, and still going strong.

It will work for a bit and then require fidgetting with the switch... mine still works.

I bought something like this a few months ago for $15, but it was 1.5L and boscillate glass, removable filter and also blue light but nicer shape. You are probably going to want a larger size then the 1L in the Hamilton. You can do better than this for price if you wait. (Also the filter on this one can't be removed).

Also mine was free after a promotional discount, nothing to do with deal, jus' bragging.

fyi In my opinion 1500 Watts for Fast Boiling isn't a selling point. The one I have is only 1100 Watts, and is heating 50% more water (1.5 L vs 1.0 L here), and I think it is heating too fast and too hot as it is. The blue light and clear glass is spiffy, but the shape of the Hamilton here isn't as pretty as some similar products with a blue light (just encouraging shopping and comparing).

I had this problem with a different kettle, not glass and not the one I currently use, but it has a similar switch to the Hamilton, looking at a picture of one after your description, and the exact same problem. The switch is breaking, the kettle works fine, but I started to have to fiddle with it, and now it is almost impossible to turn on. These types of switches are apparently very cheap. My current kettle has a different type of switch at the top of it.

I don't know how good this kettle is, but I bought a stainless steel Hamilton Beach Kettle 10 years ago and it's still working! So I suspect that this is of similarly high quality as well.
