And false. Garbage disposals don't have sharp blades; they have blunt metal "impellers" or lugs that sling food against a perforated grind ring. Ice just does a fantastic job of blasting away the gunk stuck to them. Add some salt and line and it even smells better.

I disagree with this - egg shells are one of the things that you should NOT put in disposal. Tons of articles are out there as to why it's a bad idea.

Ice falls victim to gravity, how can you clean the top and sides? Not to mention, dulls the heck out of the blades over time (if done often).

That being said, a baby bottle brush from the dollar (.75) store bent can do exactly the same thing as this.

Add 2 cups of vinegar in the disposal, wait for 30-45 mins, dispose it off. Then pour a mixture of half a cup of baking soda with 2 cups of water , wait for 30 mins and dispose it off. Repeat it every 3 months and you'll have your disposal last for more than your expectations. Crushing ice with lemon is also a good idea.

I use ice and bar keepers best friend. Works like a charm. Will have to add lime to that mix though. Good advice.

Just curious, why should we be even cleaning the insides? We scrape big stuff from our plates into the garbage. Rest goes into the disposal along with citrus peels. We do this daily. Occasionally we throw extra peels down there by themselves. Never have any odor issues.

The only failures we have had were impeller breaking off (which is odd because we dont through bones or other hard stuff in there).

This brush looks like a solution looking for a problem.

It's like your mouth. You put stuff in your mouth to eat, everything in your mouth should go inside your stomach. But sometimes there are things that get stuck in between the teeth and it may need some help lodging it off with a brush or toothpick. Well sometimes with garbage disposal, some sludge or grime will get stuck on the blades or the sides - and if left there for awhile, it'll start to stench up. So ice with lemon does the trick of removing the old grime and getting rid of the old foul odor.
