I would add that "reading" and "sounding" aren't the same.

Something else to "read", read all the post on that link.
There are many owners that report having zero issues with this unit, none mentioning they heard a "limp mode" one!
You will find the same over on AVS.

I set this up with a 9 channel SVS setup and even at higher than normal levels, never heard a limp mode issue!
Not surprising, most people don't come close to needing/reaching 36 watts, even in peak scenes.

I always think of them as related, as sometimes I'm Reading an unfamiliar word, and then I find myself Sounding it out.

Some words in the English language can't be sounded out like reservoir and resume, the French have left their mark.

Item is back in stock (they seem to only add a couple at a time) BUT no longer shipped by Amazon which might make returning harder as it's via EE (though a to z still applies so if you get a lemon it should feature return shipping free) however still in for 1 over directly purchasing from EE because of 5% CB on my amz card. This device plus the monoprice 7 channel (true) 90W amp (325 shipped! and 5% CB on amz payments with amz cards... https://slickdeals.net/f/19715778-monolith-7-ch-amp-90-135wpc-fs-325? ) should keep me happy for the next 5 or so years at a price that can't be beat, while most people won't need the amp, at $325 with a 3 yr replacement warranty where MP pays return shipping, it's a nice addition to make sure the receiver performs the way you want it to for quite awhile (just make sure you get some decent RCA cables.)

Edit: worth noting despite loving an extended warranty, don't buy one on receivers unless they are open box/ not covered by the mfg warranty. In this case the mfg warranty (since EE is an official reseller of Onkyo) is 3 years, the only thing the extended warranty will give you is power surge protecting. Also of note: Onkyo makes you pay outgoing shipping for any warranty work, extended warranties do not - but they also don't take effect on mfg covered warranty issues until AFTER the mfg warranty expires.) .

Oh! Yeah, no. I said in for one yesterday meaning I was literally just buying it now. It's going to be here in a week as it's shipped by ee and I've already got the mono amp so I doubt it will ever be run as anything other than a preamp or *possibly* as an amp for 2 small polk bookshelf speakers collecting dust that could serve as height speakers in a 7.2.2 (have 3 of mono's cheap 15s and a couch shaker so nfc how I should officially count subs, but as the monos are tied to 1 sub output and the shaker to the other it counts as a 2 for me) so it shouldn't ever break a sweat which will hopefully cause it to last many years since it will be used at a much lower operating temperature

But I'm a queer duck and my current denon receiver is rapidly failing so I couldn't wait for the next gen and got sick of all the 9.2 SD notifications

Oh ok the good thing, the preamp mode in this will apply if you use it for a pair of speakers.
