I was needing something like this, but after reading the reviews i see it only picks up large objects. I need something that will filler out fine particles like dirt and silt.

You can get a finer bag for dust and dirt.

Hi JimB, would you know where can you get a finer bag? (was thinking of making one out of those skimmer socks, that material can trap fine particles)

Look up "pool filter balls" they are made to replace the sand in sand filters. They sell them in all sorts of weights, go with the lowest weight one since you won't need a lot for this handheld vacuum.

They are reusable and easy to wash with a hose (or in the laundry)

This is the brand I bought, I use them in my sand filter but also in my underwater robot vacuum to help catch finer particles. https://www.amazon.com/AQUASTRONG...B0G1S8F87M

Good idea. I have a cheap robot vacuum that really surprised me. But I just may purchase this to clean behind the stairs where the robot can't reach

I've had this for 3-4 years, bought at Walmart, they still appear to appear during the summer but I do not think it is a regular item. Paid $70-ish. Works great for anything no matter how small since it is a tightly woven fiber-ish material.... except algae, that seems to go right through the included filter.

FWIW, I'd agree a pool sock might be helpful but wouldn't be a huge difference in particle size, the other issue, the smaller the filter, the more often (like even a couple of minutes) the filter can get completely obstructed needing to be manually rinsed. Good and bad, because that means you are catching the stuff, but also a pain at the same time. Pool sock might be helpful here too. Have a few socks to act like a prefilter so you can just throw those to the side and wash all of them at once. I've considered that too, just never tried it.

P.S. The filter in the 'Vako' appears to have huge holes, almost like a tent screen material. I'd agree that might only catch large objects. Anything sand size, or even slightly bigger, likely would just go right through.

i bought a similar one with a mesh bag and it was pretty much worthless for a hot tub. got the big stuff but would just blow the finer particles to other parts of the tub. i bought this instead it has a clothish bag and that catches the fine stuff. https://amazon.com/dp/B0FND6TZSN
