I mean that's exactly what this is for. Haha. This is my go to for finding studs or ceiling joists.

I've had one for years and it is quick, easy, and awesome. But you're really trusting that the dry wallers hit the stud on center...

This type of stud finder is great! No batteries, no false positives, and super compact in the toolbelt.

i don't know why you wouldn't just spend an extra 10-20 and get a franklin stud finder

I'll echo all the positive comments. This is the only stud finder that has ever worked for me. Works great and a lot cheaper than many fancy ones that don't work.

The crew that drywalled my house almost intentionally off-centered all their drywall screws one way or the other, so using a magnetic one like this ended up missing the stud half the time. If your initial crew did a good job these are simple and reliable, but not fail proof.

That's why I switched to a Franklin. I've worked on way too many houses where the fasteners were only a rough suggestion of where the stud actually was, especially if the stud is bowed or the construction is non-standard.

Because this is incredibly simple and just works every time in my experience.

edit: I did just check those franklins out and they look pretty slick. I'm going to stick with this magnetic job, but the franklin looks a lot nicer than the old electric junk I used to try and use.

For this exact reason if I'm mounting heavy stuff, like a tv, i get a small little nail and poke holes in the drywall to find the center lol, using this exact stud finder. Picture frames i usually just trust that if i get a good bite in the stud it should be fine.
