If you want a blade steel that's going to perform well you can spend literally just a few minutes searching for this and 8cr13mov or 7cr17mov and compare to see how much knives with those go for. You can sometimes get Kershaws around the same price with 8cr13mov too.

For clarity, you mean this 4Cr14 steel is inferior to the other alloys you mentioned, yes? All-around worse, or specific properties e.g. worse edge retention but maybe easier to re-sharpen?

For the cheaper Chinese stainless steels, the first number such as 4 or 8 indicate the carbon content. The higher the number generally indicates you will have better edge retention, ie you will have to sharpen it less, but in turn more it becomes more likely to rust. All are fairly easy to sharpen. Frankly now that 14c28n can be had for $20 at Walmart, I would always choose it over the Chinese budget steels, 420, Aus-8 or any of the gas station knife steels. Exactly, this is a bottom-of-the-barrel gas station knife that just happens to have Kershaw branding slapped on it to make people think its not some of the cheapest pot metal you could barely call steel.

In general, this specific steel will be easier to sharpen because of the lower carbon content. The trade-off is the need to sharpen this steel more often.

I believe that this is where you were going:

This specific steel, 4Cr14, has a lower carbon content than 8Cr13MoV but has a higher chromium content. The 4Cr14 is less likely to rust.

14C28N is a step up from 8Cr13MoV in edge retention even though the carbon content is lower. The addition of nitrogen makes a notable difference.
