Im currently testing mine 35 days so far and Im on the fence. I can say that I havent woken up in a sweat, but I have to sometimes turn it off at night because its either too cold or too hot. I didnt realize how much I like the weight of the blankets on me, but even with three on top, the air still pushes it up off of me. Will need to think about keeping it before the 60 days is up.

Can you have a light blanket/sheet layer covering you that doesn't get blown up? Or can you not set it up like that?

It can be used with any sheet but it's not worth getting unless you get the special sheet that inflates. It's a lot more effective with that sheet.

My understanding it's whatever the room temp is. It can't lower the temp to 68 if the room temp is 78.

For this price you can get a portable AC, if you can afford additional $100, you can get a split AC, which is quiet and making the whole room cool.

A portable AC that you have to vent out of the room and uses a lot more electricity, or a split unit like you suggest that you have to drill out, mount on the wall, provide some sort of outside pad for...

This is way more efficient than cooling the whole room (just cools you). Additionally it's not just cooling - it has heating, cooling, and "dry" mode. The dry setting surprised me the most - you can effectively set it around room temp and it works to keep you from sweating without a heating/cooling element. My quality of sleep has skyrocketed from this to the point that when i travel I actually have issues sleeping without it. I actually bought two backups for my wife and I in case ours break and the company goes out of business.
