These prices are so tempting. Sadly, I just caved in and bought the branded Le Creuset Round Dutch oven 6.5qt for $289.

These products all look the same from the outside, the weight (cast iron typically) so there is no way to tell what the $289 price really means. Hoping someone here knows or this topic of Le Creuset versus Others have been debated and concluded with a rationale for the higher price tag... Thanks for any help..

Vintage is what I go with. Old Griswold sell for less than new le Cruset and are of the same quality. And have so much more character. I bought a 8 qt chromed vintage Griswold for $175 and I love it. And it gets a lot of compliments from guests.

Good question. I don't buy on name only. I look for quality, function and price. Those determine value. You won't go wrong with high end French or vintage cast iron. I use ones that fit my budget, regardless of source. Have 10+ pieces of various brands, countries. None have let me down. That includes the least expensive campingware from China.
