On the Henckel page it claims these are forged stainless knives if so this is one heck of a deal.
It is forged. That's what the pictures show, and that's the idea behind the "Premio" line. These aren't heirloom level knives, but they are a very solid choice at a very reasonable price.

Note the single dude, instead of the throuplet - lonely guy because he has poor quality blades. Cheap steel doesn't hold the edge as long, but this is a great deal for a first-time "live on your own" apartment or a budget.

I still have the Classic German Henckels I bought 30 years ago. Maintains the paper-shred edge with maintenance.

Zwilling J.A. Henckels is headquartered in Solingen, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany.
The company manufactures its products in several locations depending on the brand line:
  • Zwilling Premium Knives: Primarily manufactured in Solingen, Germany.
  • Henckels International: Manufactured in China, Spain, and Japan.
  • Miyabi Knives: Manufactured in Japan.
While the corporate parent and original factory are in Germany, the affordable Henckels International line (often identified by a single-man logo) is explicitly not made in Germany.

What is the difference between Zwilling and Henckels knives?
The primary difference between Zwilling and Henckels (officially Henckels International) is their market positioning: Zwilling is the premium, professional-grade line, while Henckels is the budget-friendly, entry-level line. Both are owned by the same parent company, Zwilling J.A. Henckels.
1. Logo Identification

The fastest way to distinguish them is by the logo etched on the blade:
  • Zwilling (Premium): Features the "Twin" logo (two stick figures side-by-side). Zwilling means "twin" in German.
  • Henckels International (Budget): Features the "Single Man" logo (one stick figure holding a halberd).
2. Manufacturing & Origin
  • Zwilling: Primarily manufactured in Solingen, Germany (the "City of Blades") or Japan. These lines adhere to strict German manufacturing standards.
  • Henckels International: Manufactured in China, Spain, Thailand, and India. They are explicitly not made in Germany.
3. Construction & Steel Quality
  • Zwilling:
    • Construction: Mostly forged from a single piece of high-carbon stainless steel (e.g., X50CrMoV15). This creates a full tang and often a bolster for better balance and durability.
    • Hardness: Typically 57–58 HRC (Rockwell Hardness Scale).
    • Treatment: Uses the proprietary Friodur® ice-hardening process for superior edge retention and corrosion resistance.
    • Edge Angle: Sharpened to 15 degrees per side for precision.
  • Henckels International:
    • Construction: Mostly stamped from sheets of steel. Blades are thinner, lighter, and often lack a bolster. Some entry-level forged lines exist but use lower-grade steel.
    • Hardness: Typically 52–55 HRC, making them softer and easier to sharpen but requiring it more frequently.
    • Edge Angle: Sharpened to 15–20 degrees per side.
4. Price & Warranty
  • Zwilling: Higher price point ($100–$200+ per chef's knife). Comes with a lifetime warranty and often includes free lifetime sharpening services. Designed to last decades.
  • Henckels International: Affordable price point ($20–$60 per chef's knife; sets often under $200). Warranty terms vary by retailer and are generally more limited. Designed for casual home use and may need replacement sooner under heavy use.
This henckels premio is forged, not stamped just to add to this. German steel means high carbon stainless steel but manufacturing standards are probably not as strict as that of germany. But I won't be able to tell the difference anyway Smilie

Stainless knives are not actually good. Carbon knives are.

That "sharpener" will destroy the edge of any actual nice knife.

Yes, perfect fit, actually. I have that exact block and just tried the knives that arrived today.

Ya u gotta love the kb warriors for, cutlery, its pathetic... Guys who barely know how to cook an omelet need $1000 knives. Welcome to earth.

I've the same same Cutco utility serrated knife (from a starter set) for over 20 years, sent back once bec tip broke and they fixed it, had zero issues, perfect balance and rock solid. Have a Ginsu thats sharper but food sticks to it so its useless.
