This 13 inch MacBook Air M5 deal stands out as a strong price on the 16GB and 512GB configuration, especially with Apple price increases making the same class of machine cost more elsewhere. The base specs are described as finally sensible, and the 1TB version at $1049 gives a clear upgrade reference if more storage matters. Price matching has also worked through chat and customer service, which helped bring earlier purchases down to the ad price. Stock has been inconsistent across colors, and a few orders later showed back ordered, cancelled, or out of stock.
People who can wait for stock alerts, because colors have come back in stock after sellouts and the price has held for weeks.
Shoppers comparing Apple laptop tiers, because the 13-inch model is priced far below higher-capacity configurations and even below recent Apple price increases.
Students or commuters who want a light everyday laptop, because the base configuration is described as finally having acceptable specs at this price.
Buyers who plan to keep files on external storage, because storage can be added later with a Thunderbolt SSD.
Heavy media editors who need lots of local storage, because the 512GB configuration is less roomy than the 1TB option and the internal drive is the main thing you cannot upgrade later.
Buyers who need a guaranteed immediate shipment, because orders can flip to backordered, out of stock, or cancelled after purchase.
People who want the larger-screen experience, because the 15-inch model is described as worth the extra money for buyers who prefer more screen space.
Shoppers expecting the listed price to be the final price without follow-up, because customer service has had to adjust some purchases down to the ad price.

But it is a fantastic machineIf I did not, I would be buying the 15 inch model for 1050 today.I personally think it is easily worth $150 more than the 13 inchMy decision is partly because I already have a 13 inch iPad and feel those two devices are a little too similar but for someone that doesn't or that wants the smaller machine or the cheaper machine 850 is a very good dealNow that the base model air finally has acceptable specs.
There's nothing wrong with the base model. In fact the base model is the only model that makes sense. If I was going to spend money upgrading the air, I would probably look at the pro base model instead.

I think it is a 14-day window. They just priced matched both of mine via chat.
I told them it was in stock before their customer service/chat opened. [Edit: Which was true for the $849 13" one]
They partner with Ingram Micro for these, which is one of Apple's largest distributors and the world's largest technology distributor.
Who knows how these things work. They [Ingram] could have seen slumping sales projections with the major price hike, a large inventory on hand, and said, hey, let's throw a bone to the military people.
[EDIT: Also, rep to the OP. Thanks!]
