There are 2 car rental places easy walking from my door, Hertz and Enterprise. For 10+ years I used Enterprise every summer using organizational discount codes. Always less than Hertz. Then about 6 or 7 years ago Enterprise cut way back on online discount codes, and Hertz became the less expensive with their online 15 minute countdown clock best price promise, usually triggered by a link in their email. So I used them every summer.
But last summer the Hertz web site offered no best price lock, but going into the office the manager kicked in a nice low rate, beating Enterprise. But this week in the Hertz office, there are big Thrifty & Dollar Rental Car signs to promote the merger, and the worker said their rates had increased recently. Their rates now are far above Enterprise. Not close.
I obtained a rate I was happy with (minivan $641/wk) by doing this...
Do all the steps to create a booking but do not complete.
The next day an email comes asking you to complete, click on that link, and the rate is less than if you had finished it the day before.
