I found that if you vacuum the bags early, it does indeed create voids and unused space. However if you fill the bag and place it in your suitcase and press on it while releasing the air, it will form-fit to the space and will have far less unused spaces. I went from having a 'domestic' carry on side to an 'international' carry on size and this method helped bring back the space I lost moving down a size in carry on.

unless you are only packing fluffy sweaters for vacation, these usually save about enough space to pack along the vacuum you need with it.

This sometimes creates a level of force that can burst zippers (ask me how I know). Better yet is to fill most of the space with this product, the outward force is on the plastic, not the zipper, and then jam space fillers in the empty spaces.

I'd say this is more so a good idea for somewhere you travel frequently such as relatives homes. Then as you travel you can have one kit at your home and they can have a kit. Packing the pump as well could lead to mechanical failure and then your left helpless with too much to bring back

Almost all the hotels have self laundry machines. I would recommend you bring only 1/2 the clothes and do laundry so you don't have to lug around a heavy suitcase as well. Makes it easy to get up and down the subway stairs too. Either bring a duffle bag to throw your clothes in there on the way back or buy a cheap one in Japan. Fitting everything in a luggage with these bags are not a problem, but you quickly hit the check in weight limit and that will be your bigger issue. So 1/2 the clothes, leaves you with more weight for gifts you can check in with coming back.

If long term storage I'd buy a roll of velcro. Then you can tie 2 around these the long way and width. Then you don't have to find out in a few hours if it has a hole and fluff up out of nowhere lol.
