It was. Don't know if it will stay that way or not. I ordered it in March and got my copy I think in June because it showed on backorder.

Totally ridiculous price. This is not a deal, much less a slick deal. People, please quit buying absurdly overpriced physical media. Sony (and the other studios) won't stop screwing us until you do. It's way out of hand.

Unfortunately, at this stage, boycotting physical media wouldn't lower prices. Sony won't bat an eye cutting production. Which would continue to make it more niche and keep increasing prices.

I didn't say boycott physical media. I said don't buy it at asinine price points. There's a big difference. Voting with your wallet works regardless of the product, the market size, or the economy. It always has; it always will.

Wrong. That doesn't apply to this to type of product that is less in demand as time goes on. And this is retail pricing, so...again, holding out would just signal it wasn't in demand...it wouldn't change a thing.

I mean seeing as this is reselling for $80 second hand, $40 is a "good" deal. That being said, with everything thats going on with physical media, if youre not willing to pay for what IS being produced, dont be surprised when youre not able to buy physical discs when they dont make money with the ones they are producing.

it still is a limited edition steelcase set. It will run out eventually and they will probably release a standard edition for cheaper.

If they don't make money it's because they've gotten greedy and in doing so have priced 99% of their potential customers out of the market. It's stupidity. I used to buy TONS of physical media. Now I don't. My desire to own it hasn't changed. The only thing that's changed is the asking price, which is now WAY too high on most releases.

disagree on it being "insane," as this is well within the standard range for new(er) release steelbooks from any studio (~$35-45, save for catalogue titles and less-popular releases coming in around $30), and was widely out of stock for months upon its initial release, hence the continued scalping prices.

while i'm all for a bargain, i'm also a steelbook collector; if they aren't your thing (which i totally get), and you're in no rush to own, then by all means, please keep waiting for the standard release!..and then wait for it to drop to <$20, which will take a while (if ever) because it's a sony release after they took over disney/fox's manufacturing Smilie

if you're looking for more regular deals on universal, shout factory, etc., there's always gruv, target's b2g1 sales..not much else outside of that, really. but, fact of the matter is msrps have gone up along with everything else, particularly as demand has gone down, so there's not much point to complaining when there's still plenty of deals to be had. yes it's become an increasingly-expensive hobby; i am fortunate to have enough disposable income to continue supporting. i still love a slickdeal though lol

At some point I picked this up on Amazon for $5 for 4k digital copy that is movies anywhere compatible. Still haven't watched it, but I can't foresee myself dropping $40 on it either way.

I said "inane," not "insane," although the latter is an apt word to use here as well.

Target's B2G1 sales seem to be a thing of the past. In fact, if you're unaware, physical media from Target seems to be done for pretty much altogether. Almost nothing is for sale from them on their site anymore. They appear to have silently abandoned it for good outside of a few massively overpriced new releases.

The more MSRPs go up, the more demand will go down. Greed starts and finishes the cycle, always, and in the end everyone loses, even the greedy dirtbags. It's a downhill spiral the moment it begins, especially today because there are a bunch of foolish younger people today who go out of their way to actually defend the greed. It's unreal.

I'll say it again: Sell a product at a fair and reasonable, not-artificially-inflated price point, and it'll sell. And with regards to physical media, it'll sell well. But gouge your potential customer base to death, and, well, you're going to lose most of your would-be customers along with the sales you would have made. Again, it's sheer stupidity...
