More than half a million tools sold at Lowe's and online were recalled. The batteries can short-circuit and catch fire when charged via the USB-C port while inserted in the tool. The affected batteries (3.0Ah, 4.0Ah, 5.0Ah, 6.0Ah, and 8.0Ah) were sold at Lowe's from January to May 2026




Batteries came with certain Kobalt trimmers, blowers, mowers, chainsaws and pruning saws equipped with 24-volt USB-C lithium-ion batteries.

Kobalt 24V/48V Li-ion battery powered products (recharged using a USB-C port) sold exclusively at Lowe's stores and on Lowes.com from January 10, 2026 through April 28, 2026.

Charging the lithium-ion batteries through the USB-C port while the batteries are inserted in the yard power tools can cause the batteries to short-circuit, posing a risk of serious injury from fire hazard.

Stop using the affected battery immediately. If your product is listed below, enter your serial number and shipping information to request a replacement battery. When your replacement package arrives, follow the enclosed instructions for battery replacement, original-battery return, warning-label placement, and 48V charging-adapter use where applicable.

Every time I see recalls like this for "name brand" Lithium Ion batteries I ask myself how much of the no-name crap containing Lithium Ion Batteries we buy on here would never get such notice if it is defective.

You 100% get a notice that it's defective. It just comes in the form of a fire.

You'll never get a notice if defective items aren't reported to the CPSC by consumers or self reported by companies. If several consumers report defects on a lesser known brand, the recall will still be issued.
