i have an echo show and to play youtube videos on it, its annoying, i have to physically touch the screen to play them. the description of this says it can play youtube videos, does anyone know the process? is it cumbersome? ideally i just want to "cast" it to my tv, like how my old chromecast used to work

There is no comparison between a firestick and an Echo.
For enhanced security, this device prevents sideloading or installing apps from unknown sources. Only apps from the Amazon Appstore are available for download.
can anyone give a yes or no to this question, can i open a youtube video using the youtube app in my android phone, and then press the cast button and make it play on this fire tv stick? like the way chromecast used to work? (now its a $99 device and they discontinued the old one). i dont mean just mirroring the screen which requires my android phone to stay on and constantly streaming, i mean casting. im looking for a normal "yes" or "no" type answer to the question

No.
If I understand you correctly, you want chromecast features. This will "screen mirror" but as you mentioned that requires the phone to actively be the internet/content provider to the TV
And you can also just ...open the YouTube app on the FireTV?
No.

thanks. do you know if firetv currently has a youtube app?, i searched and i see some threads on another forum saying it doesnt work, hard to find an up to date answer.
assuming this fire tv does have a youtube app, what is the easy process for playing a youtube video (i mean besides mirror cast method)? can i speak into the mic and give it the video name and also speak and say "play", or do i need to speak the name of the video, and then manually use arrow keys to highlight it from the list, and then manually press the play button?
(on echo i can search for the video using my voice but it results in a webpage view with a list of videos and i have to manually touch the video i want to play, so kind of cumbersome if im laying in bed)

I don't have this exact model
But my FireTV has YouTube.
Multiple ways to search. You can login to your YouTube account and it will have your playlists and recent etc
Or as you said you can use Alexa Voice remote and say "Search for X on YouTube"
I think usually you do need to confirm/select the video using the arrow navigations and click select to start playback
there's also an app for your phone to control your FireTV
I have not used it so can't say how easy it is
