This stainless steel pig tail flipper is a specialty grilling tool best suited for turning ribs, tri tip, pork butts, and other large cuts that are awkward with tongs. It is praised for giving faster, more controlled flipping and for making bigger pieces easier to handle, especially on a smoker or during searing. The main caveat is that stabbing smaller cuts can squeeze out juices, and the tool may need to be beefier or sturdier for heavy use. A niche but useful grill accessory if you work with larger cuts often.

The flipper can work well for ribs and other large cuts on a smoker.
The tool can be useful for handling tri-tip and other cuts beyond just one grilling task.
A similar pig tail flipper reportedly held up for many years of use.
Stabbing meat can juice out small cuts, which may be undesirable for some cooking goals.
Handling anything larger than about a 10 oz steak or chop can get awkward with tongs, but the flipper may still be less ideal for some tasks.
The flipper may need to be more substantial and sturdy to handle big cuts and shapes effectively.
The tool's juice-release approach may be less appealing than using tongs or a grilling fork for some cooks.

If you cook large chunks of meat on split 55 gallon drums, you might find a tool like this useful. But of course, if you were cooking on something that large, a 12" handle would be grossly undersized.
Face it, this is a tool for a wannabe backyard pellet BBQ'er, which is precisely the market Traeger exploits! BUY 'EM ALL BOYS!!!

That said, I do own several hookers and have used them for steaks a couple of times, but I prefer tongs and even my long cheap ones work for large pork buts. I'll counter the "stab them and let the juices flow out" crowd to say that you are most likely doing that with thermometers anyway. You aren't loosing anything using this tool.

Anyway, every BBQ joint has these. I have a different brand in the same size that is excellent - faster and with more pulling power than tongs - for flash grilling skirt steak.
