If you are flexible then you can easily find better prices elsewhere. Costco just has certain specific novelties that are unique to them and their very liberal return policy definitely makes shopping there much nicer. Also goes without saying that their gas prices are the best around for premium gas.
But we shouldn't pretend like buying exorbitant amounts of goods unless you're explicitly shopping for a family of 6+ is better than just getting individual goods at same or cheaper prices elsewhere.
You can transfer the GC funds to your Costco account's Shop Card balance then save any Visa card for payment -- use the gas pump's QR code scanner to pay with the app and it'll use GC balance first then charge remaining to Visa card

The $50 digital Costco shop card promotion is only available online at costco.com right now using the promo code GOLDEN.
Wait is that a thing? Is the $20 shop card an unadvertised special for the auto-renew?

"Within 2 weeks of your purchase, Costco will email the $50 Digital Costco Shop Card directly to qualifying members."
After you login to your existing Costco online account navigate to Account --> Account Details --> click Edit next to Membership Number and update it with your new membership number you got from this deal. It will then ask you a few questions from public records to verify your identity and once verified it will now show new Membership Number along with the new expiration date.
