Dang it, for some reason this fan can't be used vertically if you have sideways-sliding windows.

I feel you on that, every single window in my house is vertical and they never have anything that fits them lol.

That is pricey for a fan. Cheapy window box fans for the WIN.

I've got a couple of these and I do really like them. For the size they move a great deal of air and when you have them off it doesn't leak a ton. It's great for those days when you want some circulation going in the morning and evening but not during the hottest part of the day.

As someone who's had both, this was well worth the premium. And at this price it's even closer to a decent box fan. You need to take a box fan off and close the window any time you don't want air to flow freely. This has a barrier that that closes any time you turn off the fan. Plus it's not as ugly imo

This horizontal blower-type fan can far out-perform and accomplish things that a 'cheapy window box fan' could never do. No 'win' for any box fan.
I have a similar 'homemade' setup as this deal's fan, using two 12" wide horizontal 'fireplace blower' caged fans side by side, with the window only needing to be open about 2" to 3" at the bottom. I'm in process of making a custom housing for these blowers, 24" wide combined.
They will blow or exhaust air unbelievably better than any box fan and they totally alleviate the problem of any outside (inward blown) wind at a window which typically 'stalls' or slows down a box fan, often to nearly a dead stop, in my area.
They are relatively quiet and I've already added a variable speed controller, all total cost so far was less than $47.

Had the same issue with my previous residence, all having sideways-slider windows.
The solution was easier than I expected (if you're handy). I fabricated a tall narrow, yet very lightweight, shallow, and rigid, 'duct' out of 1/4" thick foamboard which allowed me to mount a small 12" wide low-profile horizontal blower fan like this, that outperformed any circular or box fan setup.
Window only needed to be slid open about 2" when used.

I have 3 of these. And they work fantastic. But it needs a place for the air to go. Don't expect it to work if it's installed in the only window in a closed door room. It has to have a place for the air to pull or push to.
