For the price Epson is charging, there's no excuse for selling a projector that's nearly a decade old with outdated hardware. At the very least, they should have upgraded the processor, added modern features, or refreshed the platform. Instead, they've kept the same aging product on the market while barely lowering the price, which is hard to justify.
I am in the market for replacing my Epson 8350. Laser projectors can suffer from the "Rainbow effect", that said projectors like the Xgimi Horizon 20 for about $1100 are very compelling options.

Just upgraded my 10 year old 1080 projector to an Xgimi Horizon I got on sale for $1000. The difference is legit disgusting!!!! Can't believe I waited this long to upgrade. No, it's not too of the line, but I'm in a light controlled room and it's more than enough for my viewing.

How big of a screen you running? I had a 5050ub on a 135" screen at my old house. Bought a hisense 100" u8q for where I'm ant now and it's miles better than the projector. Insanely bright. Paid $2500. If you're used to a much bigger screen stick with the projector though. No complaints on the 5050ub except it's way too expensive.

Holly smokes i bought the 6050ub (essentially same as this one) when it came out for $3.5k but man 7 years later this is still on the market sold for similar price. Inflation is crazy

I don't disagree this model is overall a good choice, but this doesn't qualify as a slick deal imo
