So a computer without wifi can connect to WiFi networks. Usually it's desktop computers that don't always come with wifi hardware.

Lots of computers don't have built in wifi. If you have a refurb or used business machine like Dell, HP, Lenovo, or the small mini formfactor PCs, they only have LAN inputs. In fact, none of my 7 computers/servers have built in wifi, only my laptop does.
