I have the 64GB model, with 32GB for the system and 32GB for the iGPU. What the model "sees" for the GPU is 32GB, which is plenty for just about everything and more than separate GPU laptops. Yes, it will run just about whatever you can throw at it, but it is not like you are running a separate NVIDIA GPU, so it is going to be slow. I suppose, in a pinch, it does work, however. The real upside is in gaming, if that's your preference. I have the new Forza running at 60FPS on high settings. It doesn't miss a beat. So, no, I wouldn't be too sad about passing on the 128GB model.

Additionally, I have had this machine for several months and just did my first long vacation with it. It really is a swiss army knife of laptops. No regrets. The only advice is to take the factory brick with you or buy a travel brick that does 150W+, because otherwise when it's plugged in it will do a bunch of switching between power profiles when it draws down the battery and charges it up again. Annoying.

Confidentiality of data (you have none as a regular user with API providers), flexibility on which models to use, you can tinker with it and try different tools, etc. With a tablet like this it becomes even better because you can just run your workloads locally without needing internet.

nevermind the llm crap, this is hands down the best "handheld" gaming device on the market, and it's not even close. it runs everything i throw at it, 1600p, max settings. and it's shockingly versatile. it would be what the surface was if microsoft knew what the hell they were doing

Anyone looking at this for gaming might want to also consider the OneXplayer X2 11" tablet thing with Intel G3e processor - it's ~$1900. It's not the exact same formfactor and there are pros and cons for both, but it's definitely worth a look.

Pros...
G3e is faster for most games (correction: it's faster at "low wattage" - the AMD 395 can use more power and that makes the 395 faster), at least that's my understanding
Has attachable controllers that are apparently pretty good
Costs fewer dollars

Cons...
48GB of RAM (vs 64GB)
Much less established brand
120hz screen (vs 180hz)
Likely not as compatible with Steam OS

To get 64GB in a MacBook you're looking at the $3500+ Max variant.

Same reason the mediocre, underpowered Steam Machine is sold out everywhere at ~$1200 despite being slower than a base PS5.

If you need a laptop/PC and can get one at the "old" price point like this, it's a fleeting opportunity.

Thanks Op, I ordered this yesterday. My Surface Pro has been great but 16GB of RAM is nowhere close to enough for my current workflows. I played around with the demo model at Best Buy yesterday, and while it's definitely chunkier than my SP11, I don't hold one-handed very often. I was impressed with overall build quality, and it is very, very responsive.

@dj3xclusive, based on my research, you can use your own charger, but it may disable Turbo mode and some other high-end features if you aren't on the supplied 200w charger.

It's limited to 100W max if you're charging via USB-C. Most laptops with the ability to charge over USB-C will only charge at 5A. Very rarely will they support higher amperage like 6.5A or 7A @20V required to achieve 130W/140W charging over USB-C (if they do, they'll explicitly mention this in the manual), and I'm not aware of any that will charge at 28V.

If the memory is not unified, there's nothing AI about it. Its just a regular iGPU with a new sticker.

It is unified. I just meant that's how I split it with the software. You can adjust it and only give 16GB to the GPU if you like. 32/32 seems to do very well with tests I throw at it.

It's weird to me that anyone would want a gaming 13" gaming laptop I have 20/20 vision and that's uncomfortably small for me, can barely seen aything.

Is it all just AI folks now?

I just bought a Zenbook S16 to replace my SP9... A 16" 3K OLED screen to massively upgrade from the 13" SP, while being only 0.5lbs heavier.

The only replaceable component is the SSD (increasing storage space).

Technologically this thing is a marvel as it's insane how they were able to pack so much power and efficiency in such a small device. Nevertheless I struggle to find the target market for it and justify a purchase (purely my personal opinion of course). For the same price, you could buy a more powerful gaming laptop with a dedicated GPU or a cheaper one for productivity (like the ones in the previous post). 64GB of RAM is really nice and would be extremely expensive on its own but not going to be relevant for almost any use case outside of local LLMs.
