If you do this, be aware that a 7-quart dutch oven weighs about 17 pounds and takes up about a cubic foot of space. Not great for those lacking cupboard or counter space Big Grin

No. The worry about lead in no-name cast iron is overblown, and I'm not sure of a single bit of research that has shown lead in modern-day cooking pieces. Even then you have a protective enameled coating that protects your food from any trace amounts that might show up.

That's pretty safe (but not 100%) by nature of what it is. Trace amounts of lead and cadmium are possible in the color layer under the glaze, and if present, can come out if the glaze is chipped or cracked.

Also, it's not an everyday plan for me, so I'm even less worried.

yeah. though i might get the double set at costco which was similarly priced but you get 2x the pots.
