This 7 quart enameled cast iron Dutch oven stands out as a budget way to try bread baking, sourdough, stews, and other oven or grill cooking. The size leaves room for steam, which helps crust, and it can handle smaller loaves too. It is also described as heavy and practical, with strong heat retention and even heat distribution. The main drawbacks are the weight, about 17 pounds, and the bulk for limited storage or smaller households. The promo code has also been reported as not working, though some colors are listed at the sale price without it.

I got it in red used in very good condition for $35. The box was banged up but the pot was unused.

No lead or cadmium is mentioned in the product listing. They do offer the same 7qt. Non enamel pre seasoned cast iron Dutch oven for $45.72 And the lid doubles as a skillet.
that's not bad, for a double. I actually had one like that and forgot it when I moved. So disappointed in myself.

Just a heads-up that I've tried several of these "generic" dutch ovens and have had similar results with the enamal eventually forming bubbles at the bottom of the pan and eventually flaking off. I'm pretty sure there is cast iron underneath so not a concern from a health perspective as much as it is rust and/or no longer being fully non-stick.

This is why I stick with the Lodge enameled dutch ovens. We've had ours replaced for free under warranty due to the enamel chipping off. And they're more affordable than Le Creuset or Staub.

My oven doesn't work. Could I make meatloaf in this?
you can get older working ovens on facebook marketplace or craigslist, if you need a cheap replacement. it won't be perfect but it will be cheap.

It's probably noticeably heavier than Le Creuset, and 80% of the performance at 10% of the price.
How does the "80%" performance math work out?? Thx.

Mainly with how durable the enamel is, typically measured in number of years, but also a vibe about how much you have to baby it with temperature shifts. Those are what cause problems the most. I don't use metal utensils on enamel, btw.

I have heard similar comments about the quality of the enamel in the "off" brands of these Dutch ovens (or if you are splitting hairs, French ovens). I have had a 5qt generic one for many years and have not had issues. So not sure if it has to do with which off brand or maybe how it is used - we are vegetarian, so mine has never been used for searing/high heat cooking.

It's cookware - I would not trust an off brand one. .Especially a Chinese made one. Not a hater, just that good brands give better user experiences over the long run. Peace of mind. There are great, honest Chinese products, but if you have ever lived in China and gotten the industry insider information, you'd know they are rare. Again, not a hater, just facts and statistics.
