If you do this, be aware that a 7-quart dutch oven weighs about 17 pounds and takes up about a cubic foot of space. Not great for those lacking cupboard or counter space Big Grin

No. The worry about lead in no-name cast iron is overblown, and I'm not sure of a single bit of research that has shown lead in modern-day cooking pieces. Even then you have a protective enameled coating that protects your food from any trace amounts that might show up.

That is literally one of the dumbest things I ever heard on the subject. It is the lead in the enamel that causes concern. Specifically lead in brightly colored enamel from off brand cookware. Just saying

Okay sure, whatever. Buy a lead testing kit and the equipment and start testing for yourself, but there are plenty of folks that have already documented it for you. The patterns are obvious (Chinese/Indian junk peddled by home goods, at home, Amazon etc = high levels of lead)

It won't change the fact that there is little to no regulation in the United States for lead contamination therefore 3rd world countries will continue to use it in manufacturing because it is most cost effective for them.

Once you start researching it is quite eye opening how much we are being poisoned.
