These line sets are vacuumed and filled with refrigerant. There are brands like EG4 where the refrigerant is in the condenser but the lines are set vacuumed and ready to go. The cheaper ones are not as plug and play. Not that they are impossible to DIY but what you are paying for here is convenience.

Last summer, my old central AC not cold anymore. I bought 3 mini split AC "YITAHOME, GARVEE, AND TURBRO". All three total price is less than $1200 and installed by myself. In 1 year, I saved more than $600 electric bill compare to central AC. You could see my receipts in the attachment.

You're paying three times the cost of similar rated split units for the convenience of not having to own or operate a $120 harbor freight refrigerant pump. And the real irony is, most people will either be doing this whole installation process themselves, so why pay 3x the price instead of buying a $120 refrigerant pump and watching a YouTube how to video? The other buyers will be paying someone else to do the whole install process for them, so they'll still be paying 3x the price for basically the same AC unit, and maybe saving $150 on the install because the tech doesn't have to do one more step with a tool they should probably already own.

This is stupidly overpriced for what it is, I don't care if it's sold by Costco or what brand it is. In 2026 a Chinese built 12,000 btu AC/heat split unit should never cost you $1600. This is like going out in your backyard in the winter, and burning $20 bills to stay warm "for convenience".

Seriously, this deal makes no sense. You could buy almost 5 of these lower 19SEER 12,000 BTU Garvee brand AC/heat pumps for the price of one Mr. Cool unit.

Everyone has a different use case or need for these mini-splits, but honestly the vast majority of people looking for these to cool only would be better served by a much cheaper U-shaped window AC unit. The Midea inverter 12,000 BTU units are usually around the $300 price point, are quiet, run off a standard 110v AC outlet and work great. No hardwiring, crazy installation, charging or vacuuming lines, just stick it in a window, plug it in and start cooling off.

Midea makes inverter window AC models that also have a heat function. Mine does ( inverter model, non U shape) but it is only good down to 40 degrees F outside temp. Plenty good for most Southetn States, and certainly in So Cal where I'm at.

This alternative linked may be fine for some, but not for those living in colder climates hoping to use this for heat in the winter. It does not have a hyper heat pump (which are more expensive,) nor a posted minimum operating temperature. Meaning its probably not very useful, if at all-in subzero(F) temperatures.
Also, per the reviews, you'll spend about the cost of the unit on parts/tools needed for the install (unless you already own them of course.)
There is no native English speaking support, despite them claiming so. Chat support is script based. (Which is better than nothing)

-The Mr. Cool claims to function to -13f. ( Still not a hyper heat pump though)
-Support is US based
-Installation includes everything you need to diy (except the tools) assuming you have the electrical squared away.
- It's a Costco item, so returning it (especially in person) are painless if you change your mind or are unhappy.

I've been shopping for a mini split that I can use for AC/Heat in a insulated attached garage, MN. It gets very cold here. Most of the units that will heat effectively below -10f do use a 'hyper-heat pump' and cost closer to $2000 (or more.)

I'm not knocking either option, just pointing out some of the difference in case it's useful to anyone.

1599 for 12000 btu is nuts...you can buy these for like 350 all day long , you can buy 18000 btu ,24000 btu for less then 1100
