This portable AC is best as a temporary or backup cooling option for rooms where a window unit is not possible, especially in apartments or HOA settings. It has cooled master and medium bedrooms, a small apartment, and a 250 square foot room, with long term use showing easy cleaning and no routine draining thanks to the auto clean and evaporation through the exhaust. The main drawback is the single hose design, which is widely described as less efficient than dual hose units and slower to cool. Setup also matters, since sealing the exhaust hose can be the hardest part.

  • The unit can cool a medium-sized bedroom effectively once it reaches operating temperature.

  • The unit may avoid frequent draining because auto-clean can dry the system.

  • The unit can work as a temporary cooling option when a window unit is not possible.

  • The unit can be useful for HOA situations that restrict window air conditioners.

  • The unit can require careful exhaust hose setup and sealing to perform well.

  • The single-hose design can reduce effective cooling efficiency compared with dual-hose portable ACs.

  • The unit may cool slowly, taking about thirty minutes to bring down room temperature.

  • The unit may be less efficient because it lacks inverter operation, which can increase energy use.

Listen to the folks regarding dual hose units. I have this one and it cools down my medium sized bedroom nicely, just wish it did it faster. Feels like it needs about 30 minutes to do so.

Are dual hoses worth it when you consider the price over these single hose units? It seems they are always a lot more expensive than the deals on here for lower power and/or refurbished

Yes. You may save a little up front on a single hose, but you pay so much more later in electricity/run time to cool. And you know what electricity costs #InThisEconomy

I have had one of these for about 5 years now. I have never had to drain the water. I suspect it leaves out the window evaporated into the outgoing hot air.

Works like a champ for a small apartment. Rolls around nice. Easy to clean.

Hardest part is setting it up each spring. Often have to tape it to seal the air tube.

Good for HOA's that don't allow window units. Not noticeable from the street. I have single hose, works great.

Yes. Unless you don't pay for electricity, dual hose will quickly pay back the difference and will save you money in the long run. Most utilities charge higher rates during peak hours. And peak hours are when everyone's cranking up the ac because it's the hottest part of the day.

Strongly recommend a dual hose unit over a single hose unit like this.

Best deal atm seems to be this refurb Hisense on eBay for $199.99...

https://slickdeals.net/f/19752249-refurbished-with-2-yr-warranty-hisense-dual-hose-8-000-btu-doe-smart-portable-air-conditioner-w-inverter-199-99-fs-ebay?v=1

Interesting to see how much more efficient a dual hose unit is when comparing these 2...

This single hose "12,000 BTU" unit only effectively cools at 7000 BTU (see the "DOE" BTU rating in specs)

Hisense dual hose "10,000 BTU" unit cools effectively at 8000 BTU DOE.

Essentially this single hose has 12k BTU of "raw" cooling capacity, but also heats the room by 5000 BTU, while the Hisense has 10k BTU of "raw" cooling capacity but heats the room by 2000 BTU.

Portable ACs by their nature will spill some heat into the room, but the single hose is much worse since it exhausts interior air, causing hot, humid, outdoor air to be drawn back inside to replace it. (anything that exhausts air causes an equal amount of air to be drawn back in, from somewhere.)

Now that the monsoons have arrived, our swamp cooler is useless. Maybe this will help us sleep at night.

How does it drain water? We just returned a midea one because the drain was at the very bottom of the unit so had to elevate it just so it could drain into a container
It auto clean. So there is no real drain as it dries it out.

i built an H shaped riser with 2x4's for mine. it gives me room to slide a rectangular food storage container underneath.
