Lowest ever? Decent deal for anyone looking an entry in smart trainers. Reviews are overall on par with "name brands".

That's a solid deal on that model. I picked up the XXPro model last fall and rode it through the winter. Works well.

I almost got the model in this post, but at the time, the price difference to go to the XXPro was close enough that I jumped on that one.

My brother in law swears by this. I live in an area (country roads) where riding alone can be sketchy since some of the drivers can be somewhat aggressive so the concept is pretty interesting just so I don't have to deal with that drama.

I think so. There's another post that shows $175 but they both go to same link.

Reading reviews on the internet have put me off even trying this. I don't have a spare cassette, don't really want to remove mine from my rear wheel, and the virtual shifting seems to be universally derided as poor performing when it does work, and incompatible with most non-Thinkrider software.

What the deal with virtual shifting? Is that needed to use some of the software properly? I've got a bunch of friends with Wahoos who do Zwift, but I've never used a smart trainer. Other than a cassette, what else would I need?

Here's the Zwift version that works with multiple trainers (but not this one). It's just a BT shifter which means the resistance changes instead of needing a cassette or putting wear on your bike's cassette.

Why does it need to be compatible with Zwift? If you don't use virtual shifting at all, Zwift wouldn't know what gear you are in anyway, right? Or will the VS200, for example, not work if you are connected to Zwift?
