Will this work for a large dog house?
I think it is overkill

If your dog house is 550 sq ft it would be perfect 👍

I use a couple similar to this to cool about 900sq ft. Most of the time I can get by with one.

Inverter technology is a game-changer for home cooling. Instead of the harsh, energy-draining "on/off" cycles of traditional air conditioners, an inverter compressor intelligently throttles down once your target temperature is reached. This constant, micro-adjusted output maintains a highly stable climate and significantly reduces long-term energy consumption. Think of it as a "variable BTU" unit (up to 12k BTU).

You could save yourself some money by just apologizing to your wife. Doesn't matter if you are guilty or not.

Since the apology only works when accompanied by a gift, I'm certain this option will be cheaper than the apology+gift option.

What about if it's during a power outage and I don't know if it'll reach target temp because the rest of the house has no AC? Which would be the best in that scenario? Or would the best scenario would be to just keep an inverter one at like 78? I would buy the Midea 8k BTU for $350 instead.

Inverter will use less power and pull less draw, as a traditional AC will need to draw more when the compressor cycles on at full wattage. 12k inverter can run lower, but an 8k cannot run higher.

Otherwise, hard to answer your question without more information. What size space are you trying to cool? How are you cooling during a power outage?

The TCL has a CEER rating of 11.5 and is NOT Energy Star Rated. A CEER (Combined Energy Efficiency Ratio) measures the energy efficiency of window and portable air conditioners by dividing the cooling capacity (BTUs) by the total power consumed (Watts)

The Midea U Shaped window Air Conditioner CEER is 14.5 to 15 and is Energy Star Rated.

The Hisense U Shaped window Air Conditioner CEER is 15 and is Energy Star Rated.

The Midea and Hisense (both inverter) are available at Costco and Amazon (on sale earlier this year and typically clearanced at the summer's end, if not sold out)

Your choice.

I have both Midea U (8K, 10K, and 12K) and Hisense U 8K. I prefer the Midea, but the Hisense is OK (lower profile, but slightly noiser). P.S. I have a large house with central air and use the window ACs to cool bedrooms at night or add cooling to living areas (I am retired and kids have grown up, moved out). HOA restrictions are the main hurdle.

UPDATE: I stand corrected by holysin. It's strange Best Buy's own ad / TCL would list a lower (incorrect) CEER rating and not advertise an Energy Star rating.

Heads up, the listed ceer on the page is 11 but if you read the energy bit (or search the model) the actual ceer is 15 putting it at the same ceer as the latest midea inverters. (also it weighs 60lbs which is pretty standard for 12k btu)

this looks like a rebadged friedrich AC unit. I just bought a 15k one and it as the same foldout side guards, auto swing down front air vent and the exact same buttons, just in a different location. Great unit and runs super quiet gets really cold.

Question for anyone who has got an inverter recently....

I have a 10ish year old 15000BTU unit that is responsible for a space that it does a decent job cooling. Its pretty much perfectly sized, even on a 100 degree day. I'd really like to replace with an inverter but haven't come across many 15000 BTU ones. A minisplit is easier said that done in the room.

Would a 12000 unit be woefully undersized? Or will the variable nature of it mean it can potentially handle a room that would have normally called for a larger traditional unit? Any guess on which way would be worse electric bill wise?

I replaced 2 other traditional a/cs with inverters a few years back, and went with similar sized ones to the ones they replaced, and they have no problem cooling the rooms far more than the old ones would have.

true, depends on unit though. i tested a 12,000 inverter unit vs a 12,000 standard unit this year, both new models, and the non inverter actually used less wattage total, and less energy overall over time. inverter doesn't automatically = better when comparing other models.
