This 52 inch Royal Star ceiling fan is a basic, old school five blade model that stands out mainly for its low price and simple installation options. It has no light, which explains the bargain pricing, though a light kit can be added and the instructions show it can even be mounted without the downrod by attaching the canopy directly to the motor. The AC motor is the main tradeoff, since newer fans often include DC motors, remotes, and dimmable lights. It fits best as a straightforward fan when you want airflow more than extras.

Great price for the fan. It's great if you don't run it often as someone said earlier.
Smart switches require ac motors to control the speed of the motor. I've got 3 fans upstairs that are wired together so being able to control the speed that way is a plus.

If you can hear the ac motor over the general noise of the fan blade you have a defective unit.
