You can get a Concept2 RowErg for <$1k. No fancy screen but it shows all you need for the exercise. You can easily use your phone or tablet to keep yourself entertained. I'd highly recommend people research the RowErg before buying any other brand.

It's actually $50 last I checked. The Hydrow is a great machine but I ended my subscription when they jacked it up to 50. More than the price of a gym membership to use a rower at home is crazy.

Can you not change the resistance or have a timer/distance meter without the subscription? Surely you can. Then it's not useless.

I put a computer monitor w/ integrated speaker in front of my rower and just stream war documentaries during my workouts. Works a treat.

I did the same with peloton. Cancelled my membership Thankfully open pelo exists and lets me use the screen for streaming media. It's amusing to me that peloton greedily locks this function behind a subscription

With hydrow what do they lock behind the sub besides classes?
