It's a four hour job typically with one pro and one helper. I can't even drive to your house and set up my tools for $100 with gas insurance and taxes. The permit for the electric in my city would be $80. An electrician that I subcontract with would be $150 plus probably $250 in romex, breaker, disconnect, outlet etc to be at code.

I have a smaller 120v unit that's great. I wish I had a 240v in my garage and a larger unit. Mine struggles between 2pm-6pm so I just try to avoid those times. Otherwise, most of the time, the garage is cooler than the house.

I live in south Texas.

depends on how well your garage is insulated or if its pointed at the sun all day ... i will say at night it would probably drop 60's but if you have a non-insulated garage or a big-a$$ metal garage door then it will keep it cooler but probably on the warmer side of comfortable ... i also live in South Texas ....

This would be tempting to install into the garage if it was easy to run power to where it would need to go.

at work we installed these each in less than 45 minutes ... open box ... get some bricks or pavers to put unit on ... drill 2.5" hole from outside to inside .... go inside and hang mounting hardware. Mount the indoor unit and connect the 3 pipes ... push pipes out hole ... go outside connect pipes to unit. ... release the freon by turning screw ...seal hole in wall ... plug in to 120v or 240V (which ever one you got)... go inside -- turn on unit and freeze to death ... literally took 45 minutes ...

Didn't realize these were 120v as well.....

So you're saying you skipped vacuuming out the lines which could take an hour or more (of letting it sit still at the vac level with gauges installed). Confused

It's better if it is in fact a 120v unit to save some space in the electric al panel if what you said that the 240 and the 120v units are litterally the same especially.

I just installed a 18k BTU 240v Costway mini split couple weeks ago onto a cinderblock wall. It took me like a few days though, about 20 hours? by myself because it's my first time.
Note: Measure the pipes and wires BEFORE you mount the outside unit/condenser to make sure the 2 pipes and wires can reach it. I know it's common sense but I'm just stupid. I think you don't have to vacuum the lines once installed but I did it for safety measure, then release the pre-charged gas.
It's a pretty straight forward install. I think hiring someone to install would cost maybe $1000? They're PITA! But these mini splits are so quiet and efficient!

FB marketplace has been my go-to for these mini splits. I just picked up one a few days ago. 22SEER2, 115V with wifi for $400. Its a prime branded unit, but there aren't really many differences in the budget units. If you move up to the LG or Mitsubishi there are obviously much higher quality units there, but the prices reflect that too and for $400 I can cool my garage for pretty cheap and if it lasts me 5 years I will be happy.

Yea, some people just purge the lines. Basically, they just open the high side service valve with the suction side hose off the manifold. They let the refrigerant run through the lineset and evaporator. Open up both valves and let it run.I used to be a the industry and one company I worked for did this. I found lead change out crew didn't even have a vacuum pump on their truck. I tried to get them to start using them.I worked service and the company did a lot of new construction and change outs. The funny thing is they never got call backs. I never went to a unit where I diagnosed noncondensibles or moisture as the problem.Even with 410a, people online would say you couldn't have a drop of mineral oil in the system due to Poe oil. They would go through extraordinary efforts to replace linesets or flush the old ones.I worked on the commercial refrigeration side for a little bit. When the converted old hcfc refrigeration units to hfc refrigerants. It was common practice to either dump out the mineral oil and replace with poe or just add Poe on top. Never saw call backs on those either. I know some will say the problem could arise in 10 or 20 years. Yea, I can't answer that. I do believe, however, the need to replace linesets or flush them is greatly exaggerated.I did thumbs up your post and will always use a vacuum pump and micron gauge.
