It's a four hour job typically with one pro and one helper. I can't even drive to your house and set up my tools for $100 with gas insurance and taxes. The permit for the electric in my city would be $80. An electrician that I subcontract with would be $150 plus probably $250 in romex, breaker, disconnect, outlet etc to be at code.

The built-in WiFi in my old mrcool was trash. The sensibo system I use to automate all 6 of my analog AUX units is excellent. I would recommend going with an analog unit and getting sensibo if the unit is going to cost $100 less than a native wifi one and you need multiple units.

Disagree. So easy to pick up a $50 AC on marketplace and slide in a window and put a 1/4" rod across and basically done. Seal the window of your choice with a piece of acrylic or any spare board you have that will fit.

Some dude on Craigslist advertises $5200 for a single zone including the unit and install. His company probably pays less than $300 each unit. I can't wait until monoblock unit becomes mainstream. HVAC installers are gonna weep.

The WiFi Unit just "dropped" from $404 to $399. I am wondering if this is really the same as the $347 one. The head unit looks different. Anyhow, I just ordered one for my office.

A $50 window unit isn't going to have heat. Also, they are extremely loud compared to a mini split.

The nice thing with the 120v is that you can literally get a 10awg extension cord, clip the end and just plug it into a GFCI outlet. The fact that it's a plug counts as a quick disconnect (even here in psychotic SoCal). I have 2x of these done exactly that way - neither unit pulls more than 500-600 watts when cooling, so no worries from my end on it flipping a breaker. And we literally just drilled a whole through the wall and installed outdoor waterproof in-use boxes, into which the AC is plugged.

A window unit will cool a room and shut off completely, thus when it restarts it does so at 100% power, while wired and consuming twice the energy to maintain that 100% The 100% of these things hammering on and off typically runs at 10-15amps. These things since they run so full actually do make their own form of heat.

A mini split will cool a room then simmer, thus lowering the compressor all way down, and may only run 20-30% of power for hours, never shutting off. Some of the Mini splits could simmer at 2-3-4 amps especially on 220v. ALSO mini splits are fantastic for removing gallons of humidity per day 20-30gal per day. Much of what we feel in many climates is the humidity. Once this is 'heat soak' pulled from structures, walls, attics its a gamechanger for efficiency. No window unit will ever achieve that, they indirectly add to making it worse.

I've got a 2.5 ton single head gree unit designed for large spaces that doesnt cost more than 30-40 bucks a month to cool a 1500sq ft 27' high garage condo. Its got a 5 foot wide head that has a 9hp electric motor on it. It barely turns on. I do think the head size matters, lot of the cheapies vary from 29" to 42" which like anything else help to contribute to airflow and should be considered.

3amps at 220v = 660 watts vs largest btu window unit 1500watt is 12-14amps at 115v thats 60% less? But also whats peak energy cost when that window unit is in its prime? We could math this a ton of different ways. I watch my energy use with my splits with the electric meter online and adjust accordingly with an app, so when you have control on the money being spent its easy to 'see' an immediate roi once understand it all.

Just installed this the 120v version. Spent a bunch on tools and had to run back and forth to home depot. All in all great and the wifi works good, especially paired with Google Home.

Took me 3 days as this was my first time working with electrical and a mini split. Cut the lineset, flared, nylog, and hooked it up. No leaks hardest part is the electrical and cutting a hole through the wall. Overall would recommend to anyone if youre mechanically inclined and can learn from YouTube university.
