Community Reviews
The Galaxy A16 5G bundle stands out as a low-cost backup phone with a decent camera, 5G, and a full year of Tracfone service that can extend an existing line and eventually unlock the device. The phone is described as solid for the price, with brand new looking units, eSIM support on this bundle, and broad MVNO compatibility. Setup can be finicky, though, with reports of Wi Fi issues, slow fingerprint wake, heavy Samsung bloatware, and only 4GB of RAM. A few units also arrived with activation or update problems, so it feels best suited to light use rather than a main phone.
People transferring an existing Tracfone line, because the included service stacks with the old balance and can extend the end date by a year.
Light users who want a cheap secondary phone, because it feels solid and brand new while still offering years of software updates.
Backup-phone buyers who want a basic Android with a good camera, because it takes better photos than budget Moto models and can be used on multiple MVNOs.
People who need eSIM certainty before buying, because reports conflict on whether this model includes eSIM and the SIM configuration varies by unit.
People who need a fast everyday phone, because the 4GB RAM and low-end performance can feel slow, freeze, and struggle with apps.
Shoppers who need reliable setup and activation, because the phone can get stuck on Wi‑Fi setup, update loops, or missing plan attachment.
Users who rely on modern Wi‑Fi features, because the phone lacks Wi‑Fi 6 support and can drop connections on some networks.

Which obviously I wanted to keep this phone for putting in that effort. Unlike other people who would assume this doesn't work and hence was "renewed". As for usage, the thumb unlock two weeks later seems to take a long time to actually go from an off screen to powering on. Versus the tracfone locked 2024 moto g power deal (walmart might still have for 49.88+tx) that's been here being way more responsive on that and 8g ram on that one holding some advantages. only pet peeve is this Samsung more strongly autocorrects if it doesn't like your uncommon word/name changes. Samsung's advantage also has an android 16 upgrade among those flurry of updates.
The other method used to be activating the new phone on a separate line, and then asking Customer Service to merge/combine the 2 lines. No real advantage to that, other than possibly scoring some referral bonus points. For the last year or so, the merge/combine method has become almost impossible, with most agents saying it cannot be done. Twice over the last year, I've seen reports of a user finding an agent that could, and would, do it.

However, you can downgrade the plan to $20 * 11.
And get $15 monthly off on your Verizon Fios or Frontier Fiber home internet. This part also applies to this deal I think. So it's not a differentiator but just wanted to highlight.
