Community Reviews
The Galaxy A16 5G bundle stands out as a low-cost backup phone with a decent camera, 5G, and a full year of Tracfone service that can extend an existing line and eventually unlock the device. The phone is described as solid for the price, with brand new looking units, eSIM support on this bundle, and broad MVNO compatibility. Setup can be finicky, though, with reports of Wi Fi issues, slow fingerprint wake, heavy Samsung bloatware, and only 4GB of RAM. A few units also arrived with activation or update problems, so it feels best suited to light use rather than a main phone.
Common Questions (5)
The usual path is to activate the Samsung with your existing number, and the included 1-year plan stacks onto your current service end date. Calling TracFone to do the transfer can make it go more smoothly, and the old line typically drops once the new phone is active.
Yes. The A16 units from this bundle have eSIM, and they also include a physical TracFone SIM. That lets you activate with the included SIM while still having eSIM capability on the device.
It is usable, but only has 4GB of RAM and can feel slow compared with a Moto G Power. It is described as decent for a backup or throwaway phone, while the camera is considered very good for the price.
The bundle includes a USB-C to USB-C cable but no charger. Several units arrived looking brand new, often in unmarked white boxes, though one report noted a phone that arrived with an unlock pattern and another got stuck in an update loop.
Yes, the main appeal is that 1 year of paid service can unlock the phone at the end of the term. The service bundled with the phone counts for unlocking that specific device, but carryover service from another phone does not.

The phones have ESIM, but come with a physical SIM for TracFone.
The phones do have 5g, and connected to TracFone displaying 5gUW
Lots of normal Samsung bloatware. Used adb method is remove most. Turned off RAM plus. Installed the MANY MANY MANY updates (update and rebooted maybe 10 times?)
I used the method described to login to your existing account, unlock old phone, wait 30 minutes, then go to activate, new phone, select existing phone number, receive and ever verification code, enter code given in box on the red card. Within minutes, old phone drops cell service. Reboot new phone. Few minutes new phone shows service, make phone call, and receive text from TracFone that everything ready. Lock line. Old balance added with new balance, and extended 1 year from previous end date.
Phones didn't come with charger, but did come with c to c cable.

Update: I called tracfone and had to do a factory reset to access the phone, but they said no plan was attached to the new phone, so I had to return it. I did not want to risk a replacement also missing the plan.
