The Galaxy A16 5G bundle stands out as a low-cost backup phone with a decent camera, 5G, and a full year of Tracfone service that can extend an existing line and eventually unlock the device. The phone is described as solid for the price, with brand new looking units, eSIM support on this bundle, and broad MVNO compatibility. Setup can be finicky, though, with reports of Wi Fi issues, slow fingerprint wake, heavy Samsung bloatware, and only 4GB of RAM. A few units also arrived with activation or update problems, so it feels best suited to light use rather than a main phone.
The bundle can support activation workflows that merge talk, text, and data without issues when Tracfone transfer steps are followed.
The renewed units can include eSIM and a physical SIM, and activation can extend service by about one year when the red activation card is used.
The Galaxy A16 can deliver a very good camera experience for the price, even if it is not Pixel-level.
The phone can be used on multiple MVNO networks beyond Tracfone, including Visible and Straight Talk.
Wi-Fi can be buggy during setup, with the phone detecting a network but acting like there is no internet until later.
Service transfer can show account mismatches, including minutes and text balances displaying as 0 even when the phone appears to work.
Unlocking may require calling Verizon/Tracfone, which can add friction after purchase.
Some renewed units can arrive unusable for activation, including an unlock pattern that blocks access or a missing 1-year plan attachment that forces a return.
