Do you need to change filters on these things often? Are the refills expensive?
I have the 200sp and change the filters yearly. We have ours running 24/7 on fan speed 2 and boost it up when allergens or smells come in. The filters are definitely ready to be changed after a year of this use. Good aftermarket filters are about 30-40 for a 2 pack while OEM filters are about 40 each. But that is for the 200 and the 100 is less than that if I remember correctly.
I have had the 200 sp for over 2 years running 24/7 and it's been great. Actually just bought another one this week for the first floor.
How big an area does this effectively handle? Like if I had a two story house that's about 3000sq ft, will one on each floor be enough? I won't even bother putting one in the basement, although I guess I could.

The 100 wouldn't make a dent in it really. The 200 does 5 air changes an hour for about 400 square feet, and 3 air changes an hour for 625 square feet. At 1500 square feet per floor it would do 1 air change an hour so not really effective. 2 per floor would be minimum in my opinion. If you have multiple rooms it is always better to have multiple purifiers anyway because going through door ways and halls they aren't that effective.
I have a small under 1400 square foot townhouse that is setup in a way that I can position them to be effective. After under a day allergy issues disappeared while in the house.
