It's more for localized over seeding or repair. Not meant to apply seed or fertilizer to an entire lawn.

I've used mine for years to disperse weed killer granules on my xeriscape yard (rocks)

probably still workable if you have a small lawn but the battery powered version of this is $35 at Walmart and Target right now. Scott's cheap push spreaders are known for being pretty terrible since stuff hits the inside of the wheels instead of being spread properly.

Yeah, I'm still in search of a decent broadcast spreader. Scotts are pretty bad and are prone to striping due to the wheel issue you mentioned. I currently have an Echo RB-60 and I'm not happy with that. I may try Earthway next.

I've seen Echo's recommended. Why don't you like it?

I need a new handheld, good for certain areas and I like to put a ring of bug killer around house before I use regular spreader on lawn.

Spreads more reliably than their push one at least.

This is exactly something I would expect from someone who doesn't own a house and never maintained a lawn would say.

First, get the handhelds vs the battery powered one. I've had the latter and it's underpowered and jams. I mean it's Scotts and I'm guessing their customers will just buy it. Anyway, the handheld is better. Second, This price is kind of okay, maybe a touch lower than what you'd find at HD or Lowes.

Agitator sucks (doesn't reach all the way to the bottom of the hopper), hopper gate actuator sticks (both open and closed), the shape of the hopper doesn't allow for contents to reach the gate when getting low requiring you to bounce the whole spreader up and down as you're walking to get it into the gate, my drive train gear casing locked up in less than 2 years of ownership, warranty service is only available at authorized retailers (which for me there's only 1 within 100 miles) the price point to quality ratio is lacking. I repaired it myself outside of warranty service and I am still using it into season 3, but overall I'm disappointed and wish I would have spent a little more and gotten something higher quality.
