FYI, specs show this as a mechanical hard disk, not SSD. In case anyone was thinking they could use it on their PC and would have SSD performance

Only Xbox One and 360 games can run directly off of it. Series S/X games have to transfer.

This 2TB Seagate Game Drive is a mechanical portable hard drive aimed at Xbox storage and game transfers, with a SATA to USB interface inside and a customizable RGB light strip. It works as a regular external drive on most computers, and it can be reformatted for Mac Time Machine backups. Xbox One and Xbox 360 games can run directly from it, while Xbox Series S and X games must be transferred. As a spinning hard drive, it will not match SSD speed and is better for loading gains than raw performance.

  • The drive can be used as a regular external hard drive for backups on compatible computers.

    docyoebbert90987

  • The enclosure supports SATA-to-USB operation, which helps it function like a typical external HDD.

    KamikazeKnifer

  • Xbox One and Xbox 360 games can run directly from the drive without transferring them first.

    mtm_cc

  • The front light strip uses RGB and can be customized with Seagate software while retaining lighting behavior after reconnecting.

    NeatCable281

  • The drive is a mechanical hard disk rather than an SSD, so it will not deliver SSD-like performance.

    PeterK2406

  • Xbox Series S and Xbox Series X games require transferring to internal storage before playing.

    mtm_cc

  • Portable HDDs may use SMR and can feel slow, which can be a concern at this capacity.

    rawfish

  • An external 1TB drive used for games reportedly stopped working after a few years.

Games won't run off this, right? Only for extra storage and moving games between externals and internal?

Sad that at this price we used be be able to get a 5TB portable. But I avoided it as well as this since portable HDDs are most likely SMR, and slow as heck.

I would not get a mechanical hard drive to use in a car. And you definitely don't need 2TB
