WiFi requires more energy thus will run down the battery faster, needs more expensive components and it's 2.4Ghz band which is already heavily congested by tons of other stuff like wireless security cameras. Also, needing to depend on external cloud infra. means it's likely not compatible with opensource local HomeAssistant.

Who knows how reliable the app and their propietary cloud infra for notifications is, but there's better options out there for leak detection that pair with automatic water-shut-off valves.

which option do you like (optionally in the home assistant realm) for leak detection that pairs with automatic shutoff valves?

It really needs Wi-Fi 2.4. There are no other viable options. Proprietary hub, zigbee, wired, bt - none of those are good options for the masses. 2.4 is cheap effective and has great range.
