Nike Alphafly 3 is a plated super shoe built for serious racing, especially marathons and other fast efforts. The ZoomX feel and aggressive design are described as a cheat code on race day, with strong performance and a premium, flagship feel. Comfort is mixed in daily use, though, because the fit can be awkward to put on and uncomfortable for normal activity. The shoes also seem best for runners who already know they want this kind of race-day advantage, since the benefit is limited for slower paces and the outsole is said to wear out after about 100 miles.
Competitive marathon runners chasing race-day speed, because the plated design feels like a cheat code and can make fast efforts feel easier.
For 5K racing, the Vaporfly is the better choice and the Alphafly 3 can feel slower. These are built as super shoes for marathon-style performance, not as the best option for short races.
They can feel comfortable once on, but getting your feet into the shoe is reportedly a pain and awkward for normal activity. The fit is part of why they feel more like a race-only super shoe than an everyday trainer.
They are reportedly only good for about 100 miles of running. That short lifespan makes them a poor value for everyday use unless you are saving them for key races.
I've recently switched from Nike to Hoka running shoes and dont think the Nikes are worth the cost anymore even with these huge discounts.
lmao crappy take, since Nike pioneered the superfoams that every other shoe maker is also putting in their shoes. Nike's super shoes are some of the highest rated professional running shoes currently.

Good for you, really. A lot of folks I run with like Hokas. I got into Brooks shoes a decade ago and have yet to find anything that replaces them. My local run shop does demo every few weeks and they've brought out performance and plated shoes like this before. They're not that comfortable to run in and I never saw any real benefit. I spent too much time reading the research papers on these things to try and understand why people are sucking them up. Turns out they're a waste of money for anyone who isn't a professional runner competing for prizes.
Do you want to spend $300 to take 7 seconds off your 5k time? Because that's the benefit.
$300 will buy me 10 tanks of gas which will get me back and forth to my run club all year. Way better investment.
So my advise really to all the people in this thread is you don't want these shoes. If your a professional runner listen to your coach instead.
