the select is terrible. Couldn't run PLEX without video stuttering unless you lowered the quality way down. Every other stick i have had has been fine (older HD, 4k, and the current 4k max). I got rid of it.

it is pretty telling that it is a current generation stick but amazon wont take it as a trade in.

LOL I didn't even get that out of them. I switched to Roku and never looked back until recently when they got bought out by Fox. Not sure what will happen now...ugghh...

Fire tv software is bloated with non stop ads. Not worth any sale price. As mine die out they are replaced with either Apple TV or Roku (for much less). Firestick is a miserable experience after a while.

The amount of sleaze that firetv adds to your tv and room is not worth it.

Maybe some way to mod it and remove all of it.

The ONN walmart one uses GoogleTV and the launcher can be replaced with a clean one.

mine lasted 4 years before they self unregistered (couldn't find them listed under devices) and self destructed. Three sticks (forgot which version but they all went bad around the same time, remote has volume and power on it)

I have a five year old fire stick 4k, and two 4k Max (2nd gen) that are 1 and 2 years old. I suspect I will replace them due to Amazon UI changes before they break. Even with the current annoying lack of customization for the home page, It only takes a few clicks to get to the apps I usually use.

Amazon has really been cracking down on piracy apps (e.g. streaming sports), so you'll turn it on one day and the app is either removed or says you can't open it. Also, the Stick 4K Select runs a new, proprietary OS called Vega that is not Android-based, so you can't sideload apps on it. Buyer beware

This is why I ditched the fire stick. Unfortunately the next best options are hard to find in stock (Onn boxes).

I still run an original 4K stick. I had to reimage it once when it started acting weird, but has been fine ever since. They were great until they stopped being hackable. The exploit in the 4k Max is why I still have a couple of those, but I won't be getting anything newer. It would be interesting to know if the 4k Max has older (hackable) firmware on it or not, but I'm not willing to buy one just to find out.
